^ Otherwise, "half full" implies that its filling is of interest (Do we need an additional container? Full can be a bad thing.) while "half empty" is relevant when depletion is of interest. Oftentimes, "full/empty" are respectively used to contrast with a default or earlier opposite situation. If it was empty before, it is now either still "half empty" or it has become "half full". (When you're supposed to stop filling at half, you are looking for it to change, not remain, thus "half full", the becoming word, is apt.) It's context sensitive. Abstraction makes it a distinction without a difference.

Through the power of scissors and glue, I made this!
There was a hardback collection of Batman comics that was slightly chewed up with a loose binding... The bookstore wasn't going to take it for trade credit, obviously, so I saved it from a trip to the recycle bin and made the above image!
It was a lot of fun. I framed it an' everything. :3
