Re: Guitar Hero is enjoyable as a game.
Eurovision is a great watch. So many crappy bands and it's great to see the same countries vote for each other year in, year out due to political voting.
I wonder what has been or no one the UK will sens next year...

Re: Guitar Hero is enjoyable as a game.
I'm only gonna watch it if I find out that there's gonna be yet another band in weird costumes doing a crazy performance that walks on the tiny line between "funny" and "creepy"...

Re: Europeans discussing Eurovision
They pick 10 random acts, roll a d10, and whoever gets rolled has to perform!
...in all seriousness though, one of our German performers has been chosen through a casting. Yup...we casted a completely new person to sing for our country in a continental contest. We're sooo clever.

Re: Europeans discussing Eurovision
Eurovision is fun and whiskey is fantastic.
Most alcohol requires that the taster acclimate to them. Beer is no exception.

Re: Europeans discussing Eurovision
I wrote something and would like to share but seeing as it's not necessarily what I'd call Fan Fiction (be it related to EO or not), I have no idea where to put it up. Any help?

Re: Europeans discussing Eurovision
Thanks for pointing that out to me! You guys seems pretty relaxed here in general, about rules and stuff. Neat

Re: Europeans discussing Eurovision
Used to be that it was at least mildly prestigious to win and then host the next Eurovision contest. I wonder how that changed. Otherwise it sounds exactly like it was back when it was exciting to stay up late to watch the voting (i.e. 25ish years ago).

Re: Europeans discussing Eurovision
It changed in the way that, instead of each country having someone represent them who sings in their own language, 99% of the time they'll be singing English.

Re: Europeans discussing Eurovision
Ah, forgot about that change. But how would that mean countries no longer want to host the contest?

Re: Europeans discussing Eurovision
Some countries have automatic entry to the final as well, so some have to really fight to get anywhere and then others put forward people who get no points at all.
As elitist as it sounds, some countries are better placed to host. Countries like the UK, France, Germany, Greece and Spain, which have huge stadiums, ex-Olympic stadiums are better placed to host than some of the smaller countries, where they have to spend more money than the richer ones to get it going. Yet, the smaller countries get more out of hosting as, especially in the UK, a lot of the smaller countries no one knows about.
Geography of Europe isn't huge here and places like Moldova, Azerbaijan and to be fair some of our own places like Gibraltar people aren't aware of.
With the singing in English... well it is the best language :p... seriously though, I don't know if it's common in non-English countries for their native singers to sing in English, but if it is, what's the problem?

Re: Europeans discussing Eurovision
It's meant to bring unity across Europe after the second World War via music.
We're told in the UK the mainland take it very seriously on the mainland and it's a prestigious event to host... but it's a joke event at the moment to us in the UK for the most part.

Re: Europeans discussing Eurovision
It's a bother for us over here, too. A couple of years ago it was pretty big in Germany. Then it was pretty much "Euro-what?", and then that chick got casted and people were like "EUROVISION!", and now we once again go back to "Euro-WHAAAAAT?"
