Happy Ada Lovelace Day!
Thank you, Ada, for being a general badass. And, you know, for kinda founding my profession.

I would! If she didn't live miles away. And I lived on my own, which I don't, plus it'd be my first, and things are just way too complicated. I might have to decline until I've got my life sorted out.

If you do for whatever reason decline, make sure you communicate how you feel for her and that the decline is a temporary thing while you get your life sorted. That said, as long as you can meet her every couple weeks, the miles away thing shouldn't be too big.
Also, I should probably tell you that cars are great, if you didn't already know.

A car won't get me across the ocean

Yeah, it's that far away. I'll have to wait until I have the financial means with which to decide where I want to live on my own.

Ah, sorry. I had gotten a different impression from "miles away". Speaking from personal experience, that kind of relationship is really fucking hard. I honestly would not suggest getting into one of those.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Would still like to give it a try.
...Can anyone tell me who Ada Lovelace is?

She's the one that translated some third-party notes on Charles Babbage's hypothetical analytic machine (written by an Italian mathematician) into English, but she added a lot of her own notes during the process, approximately tripling its length. Among these notes were possible methods of converting words into numerals so that they could be processed by such a machine, which was a shockingly novel idea at the time. The way I understand it, these notes, particularly the portions written by Ada, formed the foundation of Alan Turing's later work.
tldr: She basically invented computer programming before there was even a computer to program.
