Well, women's brains (in general) are more developed in the language sectors. In terms of social development, girls frequently out-pace boys. Girls tend to score high in verbal and linguistics on standardized tests.

One evolutionary theory is that these skill sets developed as part of our hunter/gatherer past. Women needed to describe the plants that they relied on (in H/G societies, women provided 80% of the food), they passed along the oral traditions (H/G societies commonly exhibited goddess worship, female shamans and even queens), and also H/G women stayed together gathering or tending the homes -- opportunities for socializing. Men did the hunting which, even though it was only 20% of their diet, was a vital necessity for the tribe.

Because the men went hunting, however, they developed advanced spatial skills as compared to women. Hand-eye coordination received a boost as well.

And for those reasons, it is said, boys tend to do better at video games.

I would argue there's a hell of a lot of nurture in that natural beginning, since girls and boys test equally until teenage pressure causes girls to stop taking math courses. Boys are encouraged in these fields -- just they video games have traditionally been marketed and promoted for boys.

And of course all of these are generalities and assumptions based on the data.

Oh, and I have a terrible time dealing with other girls my age. I often have very little in common with them. I find them terribly silly most of the time, and the conversations they have bore me.
I think it's because they aren't all geeky like me. They're too... mainstream for me. Whereas nearly all the boys I know are geeks.

In my experience and while I know a lot of girls on the internet (many of you girls on here as well) prove an exception to the rule:

For me to openly confess my love for video games I get very weird looks all around. Geeks = boys. Boys are the ones who play computer games and video games. Boys are the ones who host websites. NONE of the girls I have ever talked to have ever played anything except maybe Guitar Hero. I get a few strange looks from guys, too. But, what Elys said is right. The guys know Gears of War and Madden and all the mainstream games (and they all LOVE Xbox360), but the moment I say "I just bought Persona 4 today!" they all give me this weird look. Though, in their defense, many of them do ask and are intrigued by my games - but not enough to the point I've managed to get even a single one of them to purchase one. ... -_- Particularly since the games are not for rent at Blockbuster or on sale at Walmart or Kmart.

@Kino: I dunno... girls are nice to have around if you want to bitch. But, I agree. I find most of their conversations boring. Particularly since most of them are about guys (*sigh* again, I receive many weird looks when I admit I'm "not interested"). I lose interest quickly and walk away - to probably go start a conversation with a guy. ^_^ I think it sorta depends on my mood which group I wanna hang out with more.

Another thing that differs with me. It's more often girls who are dragging me around to play games. Before I abandoned a lot of stuff, 2/3 of the game-related forums I went to were owned by women. On that subject when I play games with guys, they are typically more competitive and usually want to play against instead of with. I seem to have a colonizing aura or something. I have an easy time bringing in more and more girls without trying but with guys, there needs to be some effort. :/

Honestly, guys are more likely to say things, do things or act kind of... bad. ¬ ¬ Most of all they're more likely to cross my feminist or general equality side. It's not like I'm a hard person to be around. I'm usually kind of funny, responsive, and not very obnoxious. I just have trouble making the connections.

*complete unrelated but I have to rant because it got me pissed* :( I was changing out the card in my DS to put in EO1 to work on the maps when I laid my DS down with both games to the side so I could type up a message here. I go to reach back over when my DS and BOTH games have now fallen behind my bed. ..... o_o... ....

-_- I don't have the energy to get up and move my bed out! .......

Don't be lazy! Move your bed.
Problem solved XD

Just to prove that I'm not lazy (lol), I'm going to call my work to see when I'm working next (like I should have done an hour ago) XD

>_< That was more trouble than it was worth. *sigh*

Well... you see... my room is very VERY messy at the moment () So I have a pile of stuff on the one side, then I have this lovely computer tray that's in the way, (and a fan that I didn' think was in the way until I moved the tray and took it out... o_O startled the hell out of my dog downstairs).

But, DS and games retrieved. No injuries, just dusty and my screenprotector came off a little (how when it's closed, I dunno, but it does that too when I've dropped it in the past).

*pops the game in* Now to work my way to floor 4 just so I can recall how the FOEs move and react to you.

What type of gamer am I? A solo one.

I don't like competition in games. I'd rather have fun with a co-op sort of game -- my fiance and I always play on a team in Mario Party, for example. The type of games I play aren't usually multiplayer anyway -- I dislike FPS, racing and fighting games in general. I don't find competition against friends fun--

Oh, except one time I played strip Soul Calibur II and THAT was fun.
