So weird question. Do you ask someone to be your valentine before or on Valentine's Day?

Also, is it a capital or lower-case V?

Being "a Juliet/Romeo" isn't a problem. Being the specific "Juliet/Romeo" is a problem, because of the implied Capulet/Montague. Being "a Capulet/Montague" is a problem.

Which is fine, PLA, but Shakespeare should have been more consistent.

Saying: Why are you Romeo? Give up your name OR I could give up my name Capulet. is confusing to readers and is just poor writing.

Saying: Why are you Montague? Give up your name OR I could give up my name Capulet. is more consistent

Or

Saying: Why are you Romeo? Give up your name OR I could give up my name Juliet. is more consistent.

Honestly his name being Romeo isn't even the bloody problem to begin with it's that damn Montague part.

LOL but we're arguing about one line here which is ridiculous considering how much of a failure the whole of the story is as a tragedy. It's a great story, but honestly, poor writing is poor writing. Like Stephen King in my opinion. The story is so great that people ignore the poor writing and INSIST in their delighted delusion that it's great and that there are no flaws.

Did the lovers die because they were star crossed? Or did they die because they were impetuous teens? Was Romeo an asshole or was it truly love at first sight? Was the play mocking family feuds or was it just a tragedy of young love?

Wouldn't it be great if every piece of literature had proper editing?

I thought it means against the odds.

It means they were doomed by the heavens and fate. they "crossed the stars" = "pissed off god" if that helps ^_^

No but it means they have the odds stacked against them at first, not that the outcome is certain.

In the middle ages and the renaissance people were very invested in the importance of astrological patterns. Many prominent figures in renaissance Italy even employed astrologers as personal advisers. For instance, the adjective "Jovial" or "Jovian" originates from around the same time as the play, and refers to positive feelings or outcomes based on a connection to the planet Jupiter.

In my opinion "Star Crossed" does not necessarily refer to a negative outcome. It just means that outside forces (fate, as dictated by the stars) connect two people. Romeo and Juliet, as well as Tristan and Isolde, are prominent examples of star crossed lovers who have a negative outcomes, so we tend to associated star crossedness with negative outcomes, though really it just means that the two were destined to cross paths. To my knowledge the phrase first appeared in Romeo and Juliet, which is why it appears to be associated with negative outcomes, though during the time of the composition astrological connections could be both good or bad, and being star crossed would really just imply a lack of control over circumstances, for good or for ill.

Its likely that this is a Shakespearean invention for simply saying "fate" in the correct metric structure that would be understandable based on beliefs at the time. And as we know, fate doesn't necessarily have to be bad.

I told my mom I had made lunch plans and she got super excited but it's just me and a dude trying out a new Pho place in our neighbourhood.

i saw frozen with a bunch of guys

honestly though the singles awareness thing is a joke to me. this might just be my last relationship getting to me but it's nice to not have a bunch of romantic expectations leveled at me for how im supposed to act on one particular day

Valentine's day was the last time I got to do something until the end of March, so I got rather exited, and actually made myself look presentable without the need to be bribed. I was hoping to talk to my friends, but it was mostly me either wandering around or listening in awkwardly to my friends conversations. And playing polka with my mouth.

BEST DAY EVAR

I would have posted this on Valentine's Day when I got back but osu is slowly consuming my life.

I don't care much for Valentine's Day as a thing. I do like taking advantage of marked down chocolate the day afterward, though!

So I'm all settled in at my grandma's house. I love this house! It is small and quiet and blue. I start at my new bookstore tomorrow morning and I'm not even nervous. I'm looking forward to it.

Super freaking happy today because I found a keyboard (electronic piano?) that actually works!! Beyond happy, actually, as I've been wanting to learn to play for ages and ages. I use to play by ear and that was all, but this time I'm going to re-learn how to read music and do it up right proper!
