I see.
Usually people who have had a legal change in their first name are sensitive about not being referred to by their old name, is all.

Got through the first stage of the interview process for a fancy San Francisco private school. Applied to be an education IT Specialist, basically help them scale their school up by managing their tech needs and helping teachers use tech properly. They came back at me with the following challenge as the next step of the interview process.
Should be fun.

Love how they miss off something crucial - data security.
Sounds like a good challenge though, have fun with that.

"Identification directory for authentication and secure access" sounds almost like the thing you'd want

What about student privacy?
But I'm amazed you can even begin to put a working plan together for all that. I wouldn't know where to start. I forgot, do you have special training in these things?

Well, of course. I never said it was right. I said it sounds "almost like the thing you'd want".
Meaning, of course, "not the thing you want, but if you told it to the school you're designing the system for they wont know the difference"
Hey, Java is still in active use.

I know actual programmers who, and I quote, have said "I might use it for a project this summer" and "I don't think it's that bad"

I don't think it's bad at all, and I've used it nearly every week for the past 4 years. Honestly, I've never heard any complaints about it that felt legitimate. Just people saying that they don't like it.

Active Directory is absolutely the direction I'm going in for authentication. Its what I'm familiar with. The only pain in the ass is interfacing with Macbooks (likely to not receive policy sometimes) and iPads (have never worked with iPads on AD before.
Speaking of which, if anyone has any experience in how to make Apple hardware interface with AD better that would be appreciated.
Privacy is not mentioned but is something I am writing in anyway.
And to Kimikos question, no I have no special training. My education was in history and literature. I'm a self taught computer technician and have spent some years in the past working as a tech in enterprise environments. Currently I'm the IT director for my high school so I do a lot of this provisioning and design stuff in my off time to help my high school scale up.
