Re: Discussion Thread II: Return of all of the veteran ItLers
I knew Ian was doing a forum update. I came on briefly to just check for any new posts and stuff and make sure things were alright before I went back to my 3ds and Twilight Zone/Netflix induced coma.
*sigh* why did I come on? ... way not in the mood for this.

Re: Discussion Thread II: Return of all of the veteran ItLers
So we're going to be in a state of layout flux over the next few hours/days/weeks.
The shift between the old version of the forum and the new one was a lot larger than I expected and it made significant changes to the way the forum themes work. Our old theme was specifically crafted around the old versions, normally I'd just roll back to the previous version but my backup of the database, although worked when I checked prechange, has become corrupt. So yeah, we're going to have to put up with a little, erm, oddness.

It's getting closer now, some of the spacing is a little off and the icons aren't all correct yet, but it's much more usable.
I'm aware the mobile theme no longer works and a lot of the bbcode that we had has gone as well. It'll all come back

Re: Discussion Thread II: Return of all of the veteran ItLers
I'm in my first year of college right now, so my K-12 schooling is much more recent, and I still only had computers to use in the computer lab, tech ed classes or the school library.
Although the students didn't have anything like a Chromebook, all the teachers did have a decent enough PC, and during seventh grade I think, all classrooms got "smart boards" to hang in front of the whiteboard. They basically just ended up being used as second monitors that the teacher or the students could write or draw on occasionally.
I don't really mind that I didn't have a Chromebook though, I feel like I probably would have just been more easily distracted if I had had one all the time. Although I had a phone, so maybe it wouldn't have made much of a difference anyway, haha

Re. educational tech: Make Google Glass standard issue for all middle schoolers in the US. Prepare popcorn.
On a slightly more serious note, though, I do like the general push toward technological literacy and leveling the field by issuing laptops/tablets to students. It opens up many possibilities in education and could facilitate adaptation of material and processes to individual student needs and learning styles. The potential is exciting to think about.
