Well, it very rarely snows here in the Netherlands, but your snow still looked a little disappointing, Kino. I mean, if you say it's a 'snow day' I'd expect at least enough snow to make things really dangerous for traffic and stuff; say 5-10cm or so. If it's less than that, salt/sand and some shoveling/sweeping can keep the roads accessible quickly enough.
Archaic - Same here. Trains are more likely to become delayed due to Fall leaves than snow here.

I wish we could experience such rapid changes. Over here it takes a long time to show any signs of the snow diminishing. Probably for the same reason that when it's hot here, it gets really hot but when it's cold, it gets really cold. I'm thankful that it's predictable. :)
What a weird day. Been getting such random/cryptic messages from people online and then the door bell rings. I get up to answer it and... the power goes out? While I'm walking to answer the door, the power comes on... then it goes off. I answer the door and nobody is there... then the power is back on!?
Anyways... my computer hasn't started up since. I have it on cool-down for an hour hoping it'll perk up!

Well, yeah, I was being a little serious at first, but I joined the ranks of the jokers eventually.
We had some freezing rain a couple weeks ago as well. Encased everything in ice when the temperature went down rapidly the next day. So rain plus way below freezing temperatures is also hazardous.
And I was at work. There was no ice melt. There were tons of reports of people slipping.
We're fine because we're prepared for it, I guess. Our coat stores have a whole section specifically for winter. We have rack of gloves and hats. Specials on snow gear, etc. Giant boxes of several pound bags of ice and snow melt. A corner of the store for shovels. And the tons of snow plows you'll see on winter days (several trucks in my apartment's garage ALONE have snow plows on their fronts.). And as mentioned, where we dump it all is now a pile that's 10 feet high. And growing each time it snows.
Five bucks says people down there make a killing on sun screen and short clothes like we do on winter stuff.
At least the ice is GONE. Ours sticks around for a while if we ignore it.
