FWIW, you can buy alcoholic drinks from age 16 here (drive a car from 18).

We have an Irish bar nearby that will be opening at like 8 AM. I will be there until 2 AM. Or until they kick me out / I randomly pick up a girl / I die a horrible death from alcohol poisoning / who knows / I run out of money.

And then Spring Break will continue and the same drinking shenanigans will repeat. Over and over.

So, yesterday we were in an area filled with hoards of green-wearing, drunken college kids.

At like... 5pm.

Walking around drinking in the streets.

Us being from a state that:
a) Has public intox laws; you cannot drink or be drunk in public (including your own front porch; it is illegal to drink beer on your own damn porch!)
b) typically doesn't have mass drinking in the afternoon
c) Doesn't celebrate St Patrick's Day

we were a bit surprised. We overheard one guy talking about how he was 13 beers deep and had been drinking since noon!

The pubs here are decked out in green, shamrocks, and ireland flags. The celebrations in the Lower East Side seem to go all weekend.

Oh, and you can drink on a Sunday here. And bars are open until 4am. STRANGE.
