I'm quite adept at picking out sarcasm; doesn't make the comment any less fucking dumb to me. I do realize the hypocricy here as I do the same constantly in regards to ... well, anything ... but ... meh.
As for gawking ... perhaps that was a strong word to use but I thought it was pretty obvious for anyone who has ever been to a bar/club. The occasional glance, the "checking out" of someone from across the room, whatever. Pretty much anything that isn't 100% eye contact. If I'm STARING DOWN a girl then, yes, I'll expect it and whatever. I've been slapped for some pretty terrible things and I accept those. Complimenting (unless somehow "Looking good" is now offensive) and getting slapped is a different story.
Yes, I got slapped at least once for giving a once-over look and complimenting someone.
And, yes, I don't expect them to WANT to be gawked at but it is hard to explain what they're wearing otherwise without going that route. Ridiculously low-cut tops without a bra, tops (and/or push-up bras) for MASSIVE CLEAVAGE~, or even actions (like pushing their breasts out~) to attract attention ... there's limits. After a certain point, I'd say the line is drawn between "looking good" and "slutting up."
This is for MINOR things like LOOKING AT. When things get distasteful, crude, and downright rude ... that's a different story and that is completely undeserving. I'm merely talking about checking someone out with a once over look or something (i.e., STARING AT IS BAD).
I wish I sucked less with words. Moral of the story, if you slut up, expect attention (wanted, unwanted, whatever ... it SHOULDN'T BE UNEXPECTED); likewise, for guys, if you wear things to attract attention, don't be surprised when you get it. Though, to be honest, the latter happens less often than the former so ... yeah.
