Discussion Thread II: Bots? What bots?

Uh ... Maxtor drives are part of the SeaGate line (they're a subsidiary I believe?). To be honest, I'm not really sure. I prefer Western Digital for my HDs (yet I have 4 Seagate, 1 WD, and 1 cheap-o Hitachi). I know their OneTouch External line is pretty damn good, though not the cheapest solution.
Think their portable line (Black Armor) just got a huge price drop on the 160 GB line (nearly 50% off) if you want an external storage solution.
Edit: Just to add, the BA line was for high-security Externals so it has a lot of protection (shit, it does 128-bit AES Encryption for the love of god) so it was priced lousy as hell. It's relatively cheap at the dropped price though.
I have no idea about their internals and any googling I do of it leads me to nowhere >> The Maxtor site has them listed but the pricing is atrocious ($170 for 1TB? I could buy two of my 1 TB drives for that).

Barring Seagate's 500GB-1.5TB ones, they're all pretty solid (though those have a firmware fix for their freezing so not THAT big of an issue). Even then, pretty much any offer a decent sized (free) Warranty so ... yeah.
Just don't be an idiot with them. They are still rather frail devices. It'll be nice to see large (and affordable by NORMAL PEOPLE) SSD for sale. Oh boy.

I'm thinking of putting the mission aside for a little bit to get another machine. Way more than enough and I'm getting more free cash from somewhere soon anyways. This current machine is oooold. Some of the parts came from early family computer. Besides, the money needed would be minimal compared to amount saved up. I'll probably meet the goal long before it's time anyways.
