I've only played Red and Pearl.

I recently bought Sapphire though!

I hated the second generation pokémon themselves, though. :[ Red/Blue started it all with good gameplay, fun multiplayer and 150 (151 with Gameshark) original pokémon. Gold/Silver felt uninspired and many of the new additions (See: Unown) were so pathetic to look at it. Ruby/Sapphire actually had something amusing with story/game choices and redid some of the new additions from the previous generation to make them funner. Of course the new pokémon were (mostly) pretty cool, too. I liked the music for this one as well! :]

I hate the "GSC ROCKS" hype.

Sure, GSC was a great game, but it's aged horribly as typical Pokemon would do, so I don't see why you continue to hype such outdated games. There are games that age a lot better. :|

Platinum, on the other hand, deserves all the hype it gets.

Mine was the Bulbasaur branch until I found out about Mewtwo. Then I found out about Mew and I was set!
