:\

So, me and my sister were going through my kewl fantasy items, many of which are in boxes and stored away because A) my walls are cracking and could not support such heavy ornaments being hung on them or B) I simply have no table or place to set them.

One such case is this BEAUTIFUL dragon chess set that I have. We set it up to look at it and... well... decided that since it's set up, why not play a game.

<_<; I taught my sister how to play chess like two years ago. I wish I hadn't done that. I told her right off the bat that I do not know all the rules and I'm beginner and "there are things that I just don't know and more than likely will teach you wrong". It's like a blind person teaching a blind person. I taught her then and she fell in love with the game, but we never played again until yesterday.

Now my knowledge is REALLY fuzzy but after playing the two of us have gotten back into chess. It doesn't help that Umineko (which I haven't watched past the second arc yet) is also floating in my mind and the terms that it drew upon. So, I've put on my Xmas list for someone to attempt to find me a nice game that will teach me how to play chess as well as, if possible, be able to play computer vs computer with my sister.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions that would be specific to this? :\

But my story really isn't done and is kinda much of a rant of why I WISH I had never taught my sister how to play chess. Earlier when we were playing while attempting to corner me one of her pawns reached the end of the board. She kinda paused and then smiled and was like: "Oh, wait, nothing special for that."
"XD No, this isn't checkers. You don't get king'ed."

Flast forward to fifteen minutes ago where I've been playing around with a few java driven chess games. o_O; My opponent's pawn reached the end of the board and suddenly turned into the queen I had taken.

"WTF?!! WHAT WHAT WHAT?!"

Which forced me to google. >_> No one had ever told me (or if they did I had long since forgotten) that a pawn that reaches the end could turn into any piece except the king.

Castling is something else I never taught her, simply because I can NEVER remember how the move works, but I brushed up on that.

It just really makes me wonder how MANY things there are in chess that I simply cannot remember or was never taught. -_-;

/random rant lol

I tried to organize my 12,000 images once

gave up after a week of occasionally working on it. I was often distracted by the images themselves...

but yeah now I just have a series of miscellaneous folders with 1,000 images each, and then a few folders of various series/subjects with a couple hundred give or take in each one

I have my CG packs separate on a different drive. Helps a lot to keep all those GBs of images away from my nest.

I've only recently had the luxury of another drive, so I am still getting used to having so much more seperate space to work with.

Also btw Maxine I did read what you said. There are probably endless tricks in Chess. I don't really know how to play, myself, but I did know about the pawn thing .-.

I played Chinese checkers for the first time the other day. I had never heard of the game it was based on, so I thought it was actually chinese, and would be some ancient warfare strategy thing

NOPE

Lost interest in chess after I abused the four move win time and time again to win a tournament back in elementary school. It can be countered but I still feel horrible.

I'm terrible at both chess and checkers. I used to be good at checkers back in second grade... but, nope, not anymore. Closest I have to liking chess is the pair of earrings I made from two rooks... >__> 'cause I like castles, though, not chess.

As for image organizing:

I keep my APH pictures on the desktop since I sort them so frequently, but I've been contemplating moving them into the main folder...

Within the folders for my favorite pairings are folders for the individual characters (ie; within the US-UK folder are separate US and UK folders). The Russia folder contains all pairings with Russia. Singles is a folder any character that doesn't already have a dedicated folder group, and Couples is for pairings I don't have enough to warrant a separate folder.

My Pictures folder:

Fairly self explanatory I guess. Camera also serves as a catch-all for anything featuring my real life. Reference is for things like maps and charts and costumes, stuff like that. It's probably boring to you... Illustrations contains things like web comics, macros, art, etc.

Above is the Anime-Manga folder, subdividing out by the major fandoms that I collect.

Large collections contain further subdivision as necessary:

Like so for Gundam Wing.

Here is the photography folder:

I just recently re-organized this one. Previously I had everything in either "Castle Buildings" or "Landscapes" but, as you can see, felt the need to get a little more specific. There's some leeway in what counts for each folder, but general rule of thumb lets me figure out where something belongs so I can find what I need quickly in the future.

I generally brush through these once or twice a week to clean up and sort out recent acquisitions.

@__@ Agreed, negzee! I've tried to sort my music by genre or at least maybe language (English, Japanese, Other, Instrumental?) but every time I just give up because it gets so nitpicky.

With anime related images I don't have as much trouble, since I sort by series, and the issue of crossovers hasn't really popped up. APH, with its multiple, frenetic pairings, and huge cast of characters, does give me some trouble. Let's take for example the Nordics, since I have the most of them. I have a SuFin folder for Sweden/Finland -- which, by extension, means Sealand as well since the three are shown as a family. But what about a solo Sealand image? Should I put that in the SuFin folder or in Singles?

I have a Japan folder and a TurkGreecEgypt one; should I put Japan/Greece picture with the Japan folder, the T/G/E folder, or the couples folder?

I need a better system, but I refuse to create folders for fewer than a page worth of thumbnails. It's a headache, and one of the reasons why I haven't merged the APH folders into my main Pictures folder. They're still a massive WIP of organization.

Another problem I faced was sorting out all my photography images.

Look at this. Where the hell should this go? With buildings? With coasts? With landscapes?

Here's another one. We got a river through a forest at the foot of a mountain. That's 3-4 possible folders right there.

Ultimately I ask myself "why did I save this image? Why would I want to look at it again?" That is where I end up putting the image. It's largely arbitrary, but I'd rather have some odd strays that an unorganized mess.
