Edit: Though, if I recall, it originally meant the decline in affluence of the middle-to-upper class, not the lower class media representation it's shown with. I was actually watching TV and movies and shit during the rise of the Valley Girl in the media.
Edit2: Though, incidentally, we have our own "Valley Girl" in Texas with the Rio Grande Valley area. Not really worth mention but I know a few people from there and ... yeah. Still not really relevant but fuck you whatever!

The term has long since expanded beyond the place of its origin. And even if it were still only applicable to certain girls in the San Fernando Valley, the meaning of the term is well-understood. Not as important, people also generally know sort of where that region geographically is. Even less important is the particular name of the place.
And are you well-versed in the etymology of every label/term/phrase/idiom/whatever you've ever used in your life, noodles?
I think you're just upset because you're southern Californian. ;P
