Meh, my problem with this is the outrage that goes at this despite the efforts done to prevent these disasters from happening. People make it sound like they should be 100% foolproof and any failures that occur are either from laziness or intentional.
For what it's worth, a Nuclear fuckup is so much more catastrophic than an oil spill, regardless of your tree-hugging views.
I wonder how many are just soapbox preaching and know nothing of what happened >> I'm going to guess pretty close to 90%+.
Also, kind of irksome that nobody seems to care that 11 people died on the rig itself.

This is turning into a serious discussion.
To remedy this, I give you:

The original plan was to seal the well by blowing it up, but that would have been very expensive.
A month later, billions of dollars are floating around and reaching the beaches, destroying the environment and the industries that rely on it.
I understand that we would rather have trained professionals and scientists working on the problem than all of the Americans who are begging to go out there and scoop oil
but then why did it take so long for the government to accept help from Norway and other foreign groups that handle this sort of thing for a living? So many people want to help.

...so, my mom got the iPad a few days ago and I've found it to be pretty neat, other than the fact that it seems rather underpowered and lacks any kind of arrow keys (physical or on screen).
Also, anything higher than Macromedia Flash 8 causes problems when viewing pages.
Opinions?

Brief response/opinions:
1) Underpowered for what?
2) What do arrow keys mean to you in a direct manipulation context?
2) Flash can suck it.
Edit:
4) There is no 3.

Opinions? I think I want the iPad in that picture. And only that one.
Seriously though, I've played around with an iPad in an Apple store... they're fun, but they don't really seem practical to me. I'm just fine having a laptop to do all of that stuff with.

Poor Sakuya, always the brunt of padding jokes...
[s]I could make a lame joke about tapping that pad, but I won't.[/s] Damn.

You really do need to define underpowered; I have an iPod Touch and used an iPhone 3GS for a bit and I can easily say that the iPad blows them out of the water power (and battery) wise. Also, I do want to know what you mean by arrows; as far as scrolling goes, it works fine the way it is.
As for Flash ... hm. I'll just say it sucks to deal with but Flash as a format isn't exactly growing in popularity (conversely, it's dwindling). There's the possibility of Flash support via homebrew/jailbroken, however, if I recall.
As I've said on it elsewhere, I have no laptop and for anything I did want one for, the iPad works just as well for it (or better, once you get accustomed to browsing that way). The device lives and dies by the App Store, though; how much you get out of it depends on how much you utilize that.
