Exactly, Boku is 100% male with the japanese I'm learning...I don't know about the other dialects though...

Dunno what character you are talking about, but in the little bit of knowledge that I've learned, while "w/atashi" is the common female form, "boku" can be used, usually denoting A) childishness or B) tomboy-ishness
Ayu uses it in Kanon.
Actually older teens to adult males are expected to use "ore" when refering to themselves and using it can denote childishness. For example in the first chapter of Saikano, Shuji accidentally uses it when talking to Chise and she ends up laughing at him for it.
Of course, I'm not expert in Japanese language so there may be faults in what I've posted, but this is what I've learned from my watching and reading.
