Long hair is hard to maintain. Especially in stressful circumstances. It's easy to comb too hastily if you aren't keeping calm. It can be a luxury that shows you've got your shit together. Like knowing where your towel is.

Long hair should be brushed, not combed. I like the comparison to a towel though

I think men generally preferring short-super short hair also has to do with balding. Long hair does look a little silly if half of your head can't grow any.

My hair is to the looks long but still only touching lower neck. I do a simple brush and let my hair just do what it wants.

I used to have pretty long hair. But my hair is much like noodles', maybe not as curly, but pretty damn curly, and I found it to be a nightmare to maintain. I was much happier when I cut it. Getting ready in the morning was faster and easier, I wasn't as hot, it didn't get in my face, etc. Also, men with long hair have a certain image about them to a lot of people. Particularly people you're trying to get a job from. Not that it proves anything really, but I've always been offered jobs I interviewed for when I had short hair, and I was never able to get a job I interviewed for when I had long hair, except when the hiring manager was an awesome lesbian.

I don't keep my hair super short now, I normally cut it, let it grow for 4-6 months, and then cut it again, but I would never let it get back to the length it was when I was in high school, it was just a massive pain in the ass.

Then again, I do not believe age is measured in incremental numbers... but rather experience.
