I don't know, holding that face for 3 minutes seems mighty hard...

Totally unrelated, but I thought I should post it here.

So I was looking through danbooru, and you know those J-list advertisements on the side? So yeah, I was looking through, and one of those adds said: "Sexy anime figures!"

The very first figure on the list at the top, was mr. Incredible

Can someone tell me where the recentish surge in use of the word 'hipster' comes from?

i think hipsters have been using that word

Kind of like the term "trolling".

Doing anything vaguely silly and/or deceptive = trolling
Something that is weird or mediocre = gay
Doing anything that is not 100% vanilla and common just to be different = hipster

It seems the original image was something like a beatnik or sophisticated person with tight clothing that generally wore flair such as scarves, uses Mac/Linux, and in general is just not as standard. They are accused of doing what they do, just because they want to be "different". At least it is better than these people being called "gay".

Technically, hipster has become the word for trying too hard to look uncool and against the mainstream, but that guy at the end of the comic is right - now that so many people want to be hipster, the point has been lost.

On a related note: Why did the hipster burn his tongue?
