SOPA means well in name. Unfortunately, the content of it has nothing to do with the name. Especially since it doesn't actually do anything about piracy.

Yes, but Trif's post was specifically discussing SOPA (did I misread).

Either way, I'm still unsure how such a thing could be defined. I mean, in the future, how is it going to be possible to allow innovative sites to get started? Facebook and Youtube were both not exactly "legal" when they first started out. Well, ok, I guess I am a little hazy on my literature of PIPA. Right now, too many people are screaming and raging against SOPA.

Well, my point is that SOPA is basically done away with anyway as we stand now so it's down to PIPA currently, not SOPA. So the statement about "YouTube and Facebook are the first to go" aren't true for it.

But, yes, it's a rather broad term and, without the name drop, it means nothing. The name drops are definitely there for public appeal. "The sites you currently love will be fine! Future ones like it will be the same as well!"

*nods* I see your point.

Yeah, I think it's a bunch of B.S. and in that case my sentence could be edited to this:

"It will be the death of the future of social networking" *nods* that will raise some heads probably. ^_^ Something for Trif to tell his friends who question him.

I just find it funny that I was getting all worked up about this a month ago and now facebook and stuff is exploding with OMG SOPA statuses. I have several friends who told me a month ago that it wasn't a big deal and that it wasn't going to pass that now have statuses concerning it.

Stupid muggles, they catch on so slowly.

You do realize it's up for passing right now (or, rather, would I suppose), hence the flood of (current) attention, correct? Don't need to get all hipster over it; you can be cool for hating it then too.

And, yes, prevalent opinion was for awhile that it would be dead in the water. However, in the past month, it has gotten a shattering amount of lobbyist support and many representatives coming out in favor of it. PIPA was drafted with the hook of fast tracking it for approval where SOPA would fail.

Also, PIPA is up next week so perhaps we'll see more. That's kind of how it works. When the deadline draws near, attitudes shift radically.

And, as noted before, the true tragedy of the whole thing is that some people up to today used the Internet daily and had no idea what SOPA is. I suppose the same would therefore apply to PIPA, OPEN, and even the acts before them if we really want to go that far.

Well, besides herpderpedia retweets. That makes me rethink serial killer as a life goal.

Edit: And, if we want to get into theory onto the matter Maxine, SOPA wouldn't really harm Facebook, YouTube, and so-on. They have so much money that they'd get lawyers out the ass in it. There'd be high risk of sabotaging the power of the act by way of judicial precedent. It would be more used for sniping basically everything else that cannot fight back.

Ah, I know how it goes, Zamisk. You run around trying to tell people about this important thing! Hey guys important thing! And you get a lukewarm response. : / Suddenly, someone ELSE tells them about it and they're all OH NOES IMPORTANT! And you're like, "Really? My word wasn't good enough you had to hear it from the interwebz?"
