So, today things happened.

For me the happening was good, Finally got something I lent to someone else back (Do you seriously need to have my game for 6 years? I like playing Myst as much as anyone else, but geeze.)

How is the happening for everyone else?

I have acquired a grounded extension power socket, some connecting screwy things that I don't know the proper English term for, 15 meters of UTP cable, and some RJ45 plugs. Step one in my "let's hook up this fiber internet modem" project is to rig an extra power socket in the meter closet. If you don't hear back from me, I might've electrocuted myself..

Hehe Of course I'm careful. I've successfully installed the new power socket, and at this very moment I'm trying out my new super speedy fiber internet connection. 53Mbps down, 40Mbps up, according to speedtest.net Suck on that, old ADSL connection!

I'll have to switch back to the old one momentarily though, as I still have to fit about 11 meters of UTP cable in my home without having the front door and the door of the meter closet open. I'll either have to drill a hole through the wall separating the meter closet (outside) and the central heating closet (inside), or push the cable through the existing telephone pipe. I hope of course that the latter option works, as it will save me hammering the cable to the baseboard all the way and drilling that hole. That's step 2 of the project though, which I'll tackle tomorrow.

No, no, I have not been electrocuted, fried, smoked, sparked, or otherwise badly surprised. I'm not calling from the telephone booth across the road, and that's not fire engine sirens you hear in the background. Honest

For comparison, back on the old ADSL connection now, speedtest.net reports 17Mbps down and 1.8Mbps up. And I pay more for that even..

According to speedtest.net the connection at work is 1.51Mbps down and 0.37Mbps up.

Words I never thought I'd hear on the internet:
