My first memory was either Jak and Daxter (2001) or Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire (2003)

Like Kino, I've always been a gamer. Actually, I learned my alphabet through an Atari game that simply posted up the lyrics and my mom would sing them to me. I think it played the tune but I honestly can't remember.
However, if you ask me when did I start "playing" as in, more than grabbing the controller to play (badly) the same game mom and dad were playing... well, I can't remember my age but I would say around 8 or so. I asked for a Gameboy which came with Tetris and Doctor Mario. :3
And then I bought Super Mario Land 2. :3 My GOD I played the shit out of that game and beat it several times on both easy and normal modes. ^_^ I was 10 years old when I purchased Link's Awakening when I was after the recenty released Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 and the store didn't have it. I was so depressed and knew I wasn't going to get out to purchase another game any time soon so... I got a game that I really didn't have much hopes for. I found the sword and had a o_o moment, but when I finally figured out the racoon after 3 days and realized the true potential of the game it was a O_O moment. ^_^ After I devoured the game I then went to purchase A Link to the Past which I had remembered my parents playing when I was young but I was too uninterested to play (little did I know....).
So to me, I really didn't START playing video games until I was 10. Which makes that what... 18 years of playing.

Oh god I loved Earthbound. Did you get it with the packaged Player's Guide, too? I'm pretty sure we still have ours, even if it's had the shit beat out of it.
Me and my brother have this tradition growing up of playing single-player games "together". I remember those times with very fond memories. T_T

I did that with my cousin Serena. We would take turns on Sonic the Hedgehog (and a couple of others I can't remember the names of right now) staying up until dawn trying to beat the game. Oh, and Battletoads.

The first game I ever played was Pokemon Blue. I remember accidentally replacing my Bulbasaur's Vine Whip with Poison Powder or something, saving, and somehow coming to the conclusion that the only way I could play the game from there on was by catching a Geodude and just using that. And because I didn't have a link cable I was pretty much stuck with a Graveler for the entire game. I have a deep-seated hatred of Gyradoses as a result.

I'm a little envious of all the people growing up with family who play games with them. I was always the only one using the PC. Well, there was one time when I played Popcorn (French Breakout clone) with my sister and dad, but that happened only once.

I've seen the timeline before. It's very interesting. Particularly the part where it splits in three.
