^ That misuse of the term has been one of my biggest pet peeves since forever, although one of the commenters does have a point about the colloquial definition not being quite as strict (kinda like "theory".)

It made more sense back in Generation 1 where you couldn't breed Pokemon. (Since you could at least pretend the evolved forms were different species.) But even then it would have been more accurately called mutation.

^ Seems complimacated. Everything is fixed by correcting a poor wordchoice. There was even a butterfly from the start, so it hasn't really been obscure that it's metamorphosis.
