I thought the last couple books were amazing. I loved the first several as a kid, but looking back at them, I don't even know how this series managed to get such a viral fanbase. Of course, I wonder the same thing about Naruto.
In a hundred years, I don't think people will still be talking about Harry Potter, but the legends that are Narnia and LOTR will still be burning bright.

Because it's a shounen series and those are all super popular?
And, no, it's not because of the yaoi.
Sasugay indeed.
FUCK ALL OF YOU HALF BLOOD PRINCE WAS AWESOME
I liked the darker direction the series took in books 5-7, easily my three favorites. I felt the movie balanced out the teen romantic bullshit with the actual plot fairly well... I mean have you read book 6 they actually REDUCED the romantic subplots.
I genuinely enjoy this director. After the complete fiasco of movies 3-4 it's nice to see something actually entertaining and tightly told. Like with movie 5, the important highlights were there and all the changes were arguably for a reason -- although I'm still miffed at the whole "flying death eaters" bullshit since it totally ruins the "HOLY SHIT HE CAN FLY" moment in book 7. But, like I said, I get why they did it and I'm fine with that. The storytelling comes across smoothly without getting bogged down.
The problem with book 6 is, as the last one to be set in hogwarts, there's the whole "Can't do shit until the end of term" necessity so everything just gets danced around and there's too much filler. I actually preferred the movie's rendering of some elements.
And as for the book 6 spoiler... After getting home from the midnight release (which I worked, and it was fucking chaos) I immediately marathoned the whole book in one sitting.
Took me about 6 hours.
Fuck no one was going to spoil that bitch for me.
Anyway. Loved the movie. Love the series. Hate the fucking epilogue in book 7 hate Rowling, hate the fandom, but genuinely like the books.
Also would fuck the shit out of Daniel Radcliffe. Just saying.

The Deathly Hallows was the last book I read all in one sitting, if I recall correctly.
I had a little fun with spoiling whether Harry lived or not...
When I get the book, I manage to read the last line: "All was well". So I think that Harry lives. Then I see the final chapter (not the epilogue) illustration (I like how the illustrations became more realistic and cleaner, I guess) and I think that Harry dies. Then I read the book and find out that Harry could've died during that awkward conversation with Dumbledore.
...Is it just me, or is this turning into a Harry Potter topic?

All my co-workers who weren't HP fans but just mild bystanders demanded all the relevant spoilers from me. Of course, I was a pariah to those who were reading it. But the good news was that I was able to loan my copy to my father immediately after reading it.
My father, by the way, being enough of a fan that we've seen all the movies together <3
