Re. Avatar 3D: I agree, the 3D was okay overall and helped give some scenes depth that wasn't just "o hai im 3 dee" distracting, but focus gave me a headache. I don't think 3D should become a standard feature of any movie type. It's a (re)turn in the wrong direction, and I hope this gimmick fades away again soon. And I really do not understand why everyone is foaming at the mouth over the visuals and the world of Pandora. Sorry, I just don't get it.

Re. Ponyo: been kinda meaning to watch that for a while now.

Avatar accomplished what it had set out to do, in terms of visuals. If you are going to make a movie in 3d, I expect you to do a good job. Especially when the director intends on having them in an environment with real people and stuff. Nothing impressive. Now, using an expressive or original style with 3d graphics... that is taking advantage of the medium.

In my opinion.

>_> I think 3D is fun when you go to see a kid's show (like UP or Toys Story) but, seriously, the idea is majorly fucking retro.

Watching Coal Miner's Daughter.

My mother and I would watch this movie every time it came on TV. It's an irrational love, but a strong one. I'd put this in one of my top movies ever, just for the fact that I have it memorized.
