I don't watch much non-anime shows to be honest. I also almost never watch movies, much prefering series. To me movies usually feel too rushed, trying to fit so much into 1.5 - 3 hours. In a movie, you are usually introduced to most of the cast within about the first 30 - 45 minutes, whereas in a series they can be gradually introduced over a number of episodes. Character development generally flows alot more naturally in series as well (which is a pretty important point for me).

As for the subject of movies/TV shows making you cry from earlier in the topic, I have never cried from viewing any form of medium (TV series, movie, book, animated, non-animated, song, whatever) with one exception. Fullmetal Alchemist (the anime). Seriously, everything about that anime was... wow. The writing, the voice acting (especially Romi Park as Ed), the music (seriously, there is some powerful shit here), the cinematography, everything was phenomenal. To me, Fullmetal Alchemist was a friggin' emotional rollercoaster. It really made me genuinely happy during the comedic scenes and some of the emotional stuff really tore me up. [hide]Hughes' funeral scene seriously screws me up, sometimes I actually have to pause it partway through to recover. The fact that I quite disliked him as a character, yet still get affected in that way by that scene shows something of how well it was done.[/hide] There are at least fifteen or so (probably more) scenes throughout the series that make me well up almost every time I watch them.

Anyway, onto a happier note, since I hate playing my DS (or any portable system for that matter) without something to half pay attention to in the background, I always whack a DVD on whenever I play it. For the last few days that role has been filled by Blackadder. I watched through all four seasons & the christmas carol, and I will be watching Back and Forth and The Cavalier Years tomorrow. It was probably a bad choice, since I can't stop watching and have barely made any more progress in EOII since I started watching it. I'd (almost) forgotten how incredibly funny it is. They really should make more. I thought that Red Adder idea they were toying with for awhile had some real potential.

I just started watching Smile Mom. Has anyone here seen it or is still watching it? I really like it and it's one of the best Korean dramas I've seen in a while. Well the other two were Smile Again and another which I forget but nonetheless they were both great.

Just got out of The Fighter. It was pretty solid, kind of slow moving, but well put together, and not the least bit pretentious. As a fan of boxing, movies, and boxing movies, Im pretty biased. But the performances are really what made that movie. Bale steals the show, as hes apt to do, and Marky Mark really pulls off the "I'm almost 30 years old and have never made a single choice of my own" thing without seeming too mopey, you really get the feel that hes just trying to please everyone and nobody even notices.

So yeah, I dug it.

Watched There Will Be Blood

What did I just watch 8V

I have no idea who I was supposed to root for, since everyone was just so bad, except for the kid, though he should have just [hide]told his dad about the imposter through a note or something instead of trying to fucking burn the guy alive[/hide]

Definitely a good movie though. Worth a watch if you're not faint of heart. I just wish I could have gotten some genuine laughs instead of laughing at how awful everyone is, like the I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE scene and what happens after that.
