Hi Stealthbox.

I think we'll need some background info about your class (i.e. syllabus), the project, and an idea of how much web stuff you already know (HTML, stylesheets, Photoshop/GIMP, maybe Javascript).

Any chance your layouts are (or can be) online somewhere so we can take a look?

Did your teacher elaborate with any specifics on what she meant by "professional"? It's kind of like art: you know it when you see it, but sometimes it's hard to articulate.

Further, if you are just a beginner - you are going to look unprofessional. It's all about years of learning and understanding. Years of experiencing. Learning what colors look good together as well as what design is best.

Further... because it's like art, as theo said, your ideas might/probably clash.

Okay From the beginning i know HTML for the most part some JAVA (Very little T-T)
Great at Photoshop pretty much anything that isn't 3D <.<
I can't give you a reference since she kept all of them >.< But I can tell you it was bubbly, I believe she think's that when buttons for links are inflated or round it looks like a child made it Oh wait, look'y i found it so yeah I don't know what to do.

Oh and just to clarify she hates moving images and such, also the class is Web Design 3

@ Maxine yeah i know T-T need practice but i just wanna see if you guys think it looks unprofessional :3 or if it really is just the fact that i can't make it look professional since I don't have much experience.

Hmm, I'd say it looks pretty good. A restaurant website shouldn't be all formal and straight lines and subdued colors. This design looks very attractive for an Italian restaurant. I'm not sure if you would want to have it all in Italian though, since the customers would be Americans.

The music that starts playing again on every page though is super annoying. Auto-play anything is bad, bad, bad.

noobie mistake (and I did it too): music.

NEVER EVER EVER HAVE BACKGROUND MUSIC ON YOUR WEBSITE.

Extremely unprofessional.

I know, it's tempting, and it's fun, but, it also takes a while on some computer to load, most people have their computer on mute anyways, and most people do not appreciate having sound playing when they are surfing.

Another thing I noticed, the words, they are not proportionally accurate. You use photoshop? I want you to open the Characters menu and there should be a drop down menu beside an a - it's the anti-aliases menu. You have it set to "none". Set it to another option - one that looks better, and it will take away that jagged pixel effect.

I don't think anything about the site says "unprofessional". I like the buttons to the left. I've done that effect myself in the past. It's not perfect, but you're just beeginning, so it looks great. At the top buttons, I prolly wouldn't have done it that way. Myself, I'd choose to do a gradient. Start with the darker color and go lighter to the right and end at the palm trees. I like the lighting effect at the top of the buttons.

However, the only thing "unprofessional" that I saw was the third top button. The word breaks out of its button. It looks aweful. Either enlarge the button to fit the word, change the word, or reduce the word's font size (but I think that would look even worse).

On the page "Refrig"whatever, you have two images that do not match the others on other pages. You have photos on the other pages, but these are dishes with aweful white backgrounds. You could try to cut out the white and see if that looks any better, but honestly, I'd try to find photos so that the flow of your website remains consistent.

The color scheme isn't the greatest in the world, but :3 you're just beginning. It's fine. There are far worst color combinations. Please, as a n00b, STAY AWAY FROM BLUE AND RED until you learn to use them correctly.

Also, a color combination to avoid: orange on green. You have it in your logo and you just BARELY get away with it - in fact I like the effect since it's so small - makes it pop out, however, keep it that way! Normally that's a forbidden combination (as well as orange on blue, red on blue, red on green, oh there's more, too) but you got lucky. It worked in this situation. *claps*

Stealthbox: I agree with Kimiko and Maxine: as a whole it looks great!

As Maxine mentioned, one thing that jumped out at me immediately was that the text in your images needs some anti-aliasing, because the pixelation is distracting. Also, things seem BIG, meaning with my browser at 1028x768px, I still have to scroll down to see the entire page.

With that said, the other major concern I have is that almost all of the text is in images instead of native HTML. This little story might illustrate why this can be really annoying: suppose I want to try a new restaurant and I stumble upon your site. I think to myself, "Que bueno! Let's go!" Since I need to find out where it is, I would want to select and copy the address, open up Google Maps, paste the address, supplement with the city, and go. Except I can't copy because it's an image. :(

Perhaps you can achieve a similar effect with more stylesheet magic, but if this isn't within the scope of your project then you can worry about this later.

But, again, as a whole, it's much, much better than what I could do when I was first learning HTML. Buen trabajo, Stealthbox!

Here I go... to java class... to my doom... to take the test....

T-T wish me luck, everyone.

Hopefully he'll do it at the end of the class and I can try to sneak some last minute studying in.

:3 Thanks for the good tips I am going to change the color scheme to something a little less vibrant along with reducing the size of most things as a whole seeing as i forgot the whole Low-Res monitors <.<

I'll tell you how it comes out ^_^
Oh and Scratch the music for now :3 might make it only play if you click it XD

Also Good Luck Maxine ^_^
