Well, for legit Touhou games there's always:

http://www.paletweb.com/search.asp?GCODE=G0145

http://www.himeyashop.com/advanced_sear ... ce&x=0&y=0

http://toylet.net/touhou-project.html

Ebay

Comiket

Most Anime conventions in America
(hell, even a few people at Anime Boston had a decent selection of Touhou items)

Since Touhou is a Japan-only Doujin series, it's technically not illegal to post DLLs to full versions of the games:

This particular website was forwarded to me by Anima Zero:
http://home.earthlink.net/~tantrum-bull ... Page5.html

(click the thumbnails to download the games)
Also, try to ignore the random ecchi backgrounds the site tends to have XD

Oh, and before I forget. Does anyone else find it funny that the release of UFO coincides with the opening night of the movie "District 9"?

Which one's don't suck or is this a case of "fuck my life I have to play them all."

Nope. Touhou is a very free set of games. New characters are introduced but seriously, their lines amount to "*gasp* what are you doing invading my turf, bitch! GET THE FUCK OUT!!" end of battle: "T-T Damn, I lost" (Or in some cases like MoF's Momiji they get NO dialogue or a real character design (she only exists in her sprite game form)... and fans still love them....)

While there's a little storyline, nothing except characters cross over from game to game. Seriously, Touhou characters are created by the fans. So, trust me, you're not missing much.

For beginner players, I recommend Imperishable Night which has the easiest Easy Mode. Perfect Cherry Blossom probably has the easiest Normal mode.

My favorite game, it's a toss between PCB and IN. But seriously in terms of which game has the most fun characters and enemy Spell Cards, it's Mountain of Faith or Subterranean Animism. But MoF has many broken parts (MarisaB and Easy Mode's version of the final attack "Mountain of Faith"). SA lacks good player attacks in my opinion - a pity considering what the enemies dish out. :(

Well, you don't really need to play the first 5 (unless you have a PC-98 emulator and want to see how it all began), as the series didn't have a set direction until the 6th game.

Okay, as you may already know, the majority of Touhou games are STGs/SHMUPs/Arcade Shooters. However ZUN also messed around here and there and made a few spin-offs, as well as partnering with another doujin circle, Tasogare Frontier (aka Twilight Frontier/Tasofro) to make several competitive fighting games.

The main Touhou STGs:

6th) Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (EoSD)

7th) Perfect Cherry Blossom (PCB)

8th) Imperishable Night (IN)

9th) Phantasmagoria of Flower View (PoFV)

10th) Mountain of Faith (MoF)

11th) Subterranean Animism (SA)

12th) Undefined Fantastic Object (UFO)
- Full version out in about a week
- Demo of the first three levels available for download

Competitive Fighting games:

7.5th) Immaterial and Missing Power (IaMP)

10.5th) Scarlet Weather Rhapsody (SWR)

12.3th) Touhou Hisoutensoku
- To answer my own question from a few posts back, it seems that it is being released in full at roughly the same time as UFO.

Immaterial and Missing Power, Phantasmagoria of Flower View, and Mountain of Faith are kinda... meh.

Subterranean Animism has an even greater learning curve than the previous games, so I'd save that one for later. Imperishable Night is my personal favorite, and it's learning curve is much more suited for newcomers to the series than most of the other STGs.

I didn't mean "fuck my life I have to play them all" in regards to story connection as much as "fuck my life I have to play them all because they're all good so man up and play them, bitch." If it was a case of story connection, I'd play them all anyway. Probably. Probably not.

I don't want easy. I want to probably end up crying and breaking things. Things being too easy make me not want to play. I don't play many arcade style shooters but I have faith in my ability to not suck.
i.e., reflexes and motion vision that aren't like an arthritic blind man

Also, pride. And eggo.

Mmm, eggos.
Just wanted to know which to jump into to enjoy. I may end up with the good ol' "fuck it picked one at random" method.

Edit: Wait, what, 12.3? wtf numbering haha.

Any non-Touhou recommendations while I'm at it?
