So, I started to write up HoodShipping II: S.A. (double meaning acronym that is relevant to Bunny's situation throughout the story). I haven't finished the first story, but with the first one being on my PC and the second on my laptop, I should have a nice break between the two.

So, I'm going to actually try writing seriously this time and will be focusing on Bunny's adventures after the end of the previous story. I had established that Bunny and Kitten would become separated at the end, so I have plenty of places to take the plot, but I think I want to focus on some of the problems of being a young hero in a world different from your own:

1. Bunny is going to have some episodes of depression due to him missing his best friend.

2. He's always pestered to help people with their problems, and nobody ever cares about what he's feeling unless it hinders what they want from him.

3. His quest to return home and reunite with Kitten being almost futile--almost because the only way to truly return home would be to undo the seams that seal the rifts between worlds.
_______________

In addition to this, Bunny's gotten a little more standardized as a character, because without Kitten he is not as broken (Bunny and Kitten are a dynamic duo that grow in power the closer they are to each other). He has all of his abilities from the previous story, but I might add some more...

Any suggestions?

His current powers:

Weapon: It's essentially a sword-sized needle with his Powerthreads hanging from the eye.

Red Thread: It makes the sides of the needle-sword sharp. If connected to small needles, it can make them a ranged weapon.

Blue thread: When used with his sword, it works like an AoE healing spell, but has less effectiveness. when used with smaller needles, it can completely heal cuts by sewing them up. Broken bones are another story.

Yellow Thread: This is the only thread that's not exactly on his sword. It blends in with his cape. When activated, Bunny's cape pretty much let's him pull a Batman-like move of shielding himself with it and holding out against most attacks.

We have the Attack, Defense, and Support role powers covered... XD So, I dunno if I should just keep these or give him newer powers.

One problem I seem to be having right now is what story I want to do first? When I come up with multiple stories, some take precedent over others due to one factor or another: either I came up with it first; it comes up chronologically first; it's a good starting point to introduce the world; or mood/ interest.
One thing that did come up recently is how George Martin said to break into writing; namely, start with short stories or something small, THEN start forming your novels and epics.

Taking classes will probably help right now. I think I might do that modern fantasy story I was thinking about, while doing that small scale one that takes place in the world I designed. Then, while I'm doing those, round out details for the potential novels.

Why am I bringing this up? Well, I'm thinking about going chronological again; namely, the so called 'mystery apocalypse event' I was almost thinking of never writing for. I've been rounding out plot details for a while, and maybe it MIGHT be a better idea to start there, especially since I now have a concrete sequel planned for it.

flip a coin, or choose and gender neutral name and just start writing it -- see what the character says about things

It makes me wish the English language wasn't so gender-specific, so you could easily write a gender-neutral character...

I think Sylvia Plath was onto something when she said: "The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt."

I had a brilliant epiphany today in regards to my story.

But to balance it out I've been wrestling over something so stupid as character names. I cannot write Ivri without trying to stick an "n" in there somewhere, usually Invri -- and this includes when I try to say the name, write the name by hand, and type it. Maybe my subconscious is trying to tell me something.

That or it's a sign that I picked a dumb name.

Well. I've been quite productive this weekend, thanks to a certain friend who jump-started the entire story with a silly joke. You know what I'm talking about :3

I'm hand-writing the story since I can do that at night before going to bed. My hand fucking hurts man! But it's going awesome. I really like what I've got down.

Unfortunately (or, fortunately?) one of my characters has completely supplanted everything and run around like OH LOOK AT ME I'M AWESOME. Which is fun, because the story just has been falling out and into place with ridiculous ease, but weird because it's completely throwing a wrench into my plans. I ended up sticking with Ivri for the MC, for which I'm glad. I like the name.

Another name I like is Tovys, Mr. "look at me" -- he was just supposed to be a background character, but suddenly I have him dominating everything and introducing a very intriguing plot hook. I haven't decided if I'm going to scrape the entire planned romance with the second MC and let Tovys have his way, or keep him as just a friend. I might not even introduce the second MC now. I might not even need him. Although that decision may need some slight work around of the plot, but I'm surprised at how easily that is possible. I will have to get rid of one of the scenes I've envisioned from the start.

Bottom line, though. Tovys is a great character and I have got to keep him.

I don't know the full extent of why I was thinking this way, but apparently it was such an awesome idea that it is completely unoriginal at this point.

Writing my own 'interpretation' of Snow White.

It was after seeing that it struck me. Coupled with a thought process of: the Disney very is diabetes inducing; the original is not so bright; I'd like to do something seemingly serious-like for it; and 'I need some throw-away story to get some practice in actual writing and flakes of my own storytelling.' It's not an amazing idea (many have probably done it), but I'd like to see if I could make something interesting out of it.

I'd tell more details, but I wrote this right before I needed to leave for school. Maybe later.

Interesting? Crazy? n00b writer looking for attention?

On a chance, I tweeted to an author (Jim C. Hines) who is very friendly and actually RESPONDS to people. But I talked to him because I've seen him make some blog posts about gay perceptions and he is obviously very open mindness (and I think one of his own characters in one of his stories I have not read is lesbian).

But I've had this one worry with one of my characters in TLQ... originally he was not gay, but as I write him out and as he has evolved... *sigh* ^_^; it just kinda came out.

My worry was that it would diminish my chances of getting published in some way. I've just been fighting with the character. He could either have been in love with this female character that his friend was also in love with BUT the story would be more smooth if it's not the female he was in love with but the guy. So it's been back and forth - is he in love with Drakkar or Shaikar... which one... which one...

:3 But I can breathe easier since after talking with the guy he said that his publishers have really never had a problem with his character, or that maybe the most I would get would be an editor trying to influence me into changing it.

But it's just good because now I can write this character a little more freely. "FINE, YOU'RE GAY!!" It feels better to have this question finally resolved. It really is. I mean, sure, I could have turned it into a Dumbledore sorta thing (never mention it in book but outside of the book admit "oh yeah... he's gay.") but... I hated that and I'm not going to do that.

And this does just make things flow better. I've already labeled him as "really good friends". But :3 isn't it kinda cute that one of the reasons he's helping Maxine is because she is the reincarnation of his lover and as much as he wants to ignore her, he just keeps getting surprised when she does and says things that his friend would have said. Awww, how sad that he never told Drakkar his true feelings. <3

Maxine, there at least 4 YA books released recently that I can think of off the top of my head that feature LGBT characters, either centrally or as supporting cast. And we're talking major publishers, mainstream, bestsellers, etc.

Ash is essentially a retelling of Cinderella, with lesbians ("cinderella" is more attracted to the cool female captain of the guards than the prince charming)

Hero by Perry Moore is about a gay teenage superhero

Will Grayson, Will Grayson is about a gay teens

and City of Bones/Ashes/Glass, whatever that series is called, has a gay side character much like what you're describing, only I believe he's the losing side of a love triangle (he likes the boy who likes the girl)

Just don't throw in a lot of cock-sucking and you should be fine

Yeah but those to me are kinda different since that's the central theme in its own way. You pick up the book EXPECTING to see it.

These books are being picked up without any kind of note or sign that says "hey one of the characters is gay." Again I reference the Harry Potter series' Dumbledore. Something like that.

But, you're probably right. I just overly worry. I just want to be published.

City of Bones/Ashes/Whatev is completely mainstream, you'd never know there was a gay character unless you read it. It's getting to be more and more accepting and even expected that even YA books show lgbt variety, to a point.
