@Faux - What about recordings? Like a podcast? Are you good at telling stories out loud?

Brava, Maxine! I understand what you're talking about all too personally. I haven't really had a writing session in about two weeks. Last night was the first time for me since my last writer's meeting really.

Setting a specific goal for the week sounds like a great idea, actually. Any type of you goal you choose--be it words, pages, etc--seems to help create motivation, and the more specific the better.

I might do the same Maxine! I can not comfortably do about 700~750 words a day when I get into a writing session. Nothing magical about counting words, but it helps me see how much more writing I'm able to accomplish now. My problem lately has been working with distractions and getting my writing session into the day.

I like your comment how if you want to be a writer for a living, less free time is part of what needs acceptance.

Making a schedule can feel like it's turning writing into work, and I know I started losing the joy of it because of all the pressure. I think that's a step in the whole process too, learning to do it regularly and eventually do so naturally and not because of putting pressure on yourself or feeling guilty for missing a session. I read a neat blog entry about that which I'll want to dig up at some point.

I think that one of my problems is the "oh I'll write later." "Meh, I did some writing yesterday." Or, even worse, "Hah! I wrote a paragraph! ... I wonder if Kino responded to my post yet?"

I may need to adjust the goal if I do realize that it is a bit much. Still, I DO want to make sure I am putting some work into the story. The "I wrote a bit now time to play" is probably the worse of my sins.

I am fine with feeling writing is a fun free time event, however, I know from my writing classes that I can do much better than that. I can work under pressure and under deadline without feeling stifled. That's not something I worry about. I have to teach myself, though, that just because I might not have an active deadline does not mean that I shouldn't treat my writing as if I don't. Especially when the end of my story is so near. And afterall, wouldn't I KILL to do this for a living? Seriously, I use to cry when I was young when I felt like I wouldn't be able to make a living off of writing. It's kinda funny. I spent more time writing as a child than I have lately. :[ That's not a good thing. Where did that little girl go?

I know how to write. I know how to write exercises and how to change my voice. Now what I need to work on is maturity and focus. *nods* And I'm going to achieve it.

Meh and even worse, this is suppose to be the easier part of writing the story. Save for the last ten or so chapters, my book is written. All I'm doing is adding a few patches and rewriting the occasional scene from scratch. And after this is just editing. The finish line is SO close.

Faux! You can't let the fact that others are good at something deter you from trying to become better at it yourself! : O Training doesn't necessarily mean anything. It can be a very valid credential in the hands of someone who treats it well, but it can be just as limiting as complete ignorance in the hands of someone careless. And writing is something you can definitely get better at with a lot of time and effort. There are countless books about writing that are extremely helpful in that endeavour. I'll bet you ten bucks your local librarian would be glad to point out some good ones to you. :3 Don't be discouraged, Faux!

And seriously- podcasts are awesome. You should at least consider it. : P

SO! Tomorrow starts my 5000 words per week goal. Kinda nervous, but exciting. I've gotta get my writing back on track and make it #1 in my life again.

^_^ My sister has homework and invited me to go to the local college bookstore (free wifi, with starbucks coffee, and a studious atmosphere) and I agreed to go (have not told my family about my weekly goal thing *shrugs*). :3 So, this should be a good step in the right direction. *nods nods* Me, with an Ice Mocha, writing about children with swords who are fighting dragons. YES! THAT IS THE SPIRIT THAT I NEED TO CAPTURE IN MY LIFE AGAIN!!

I feel my new writing goal is definitely a step in the right direction for myself. After a favorite writer of mine posted a tweet that he rewarded himself with ice cream after meeting his writing goal, I asked him what that meant. He writes 1000 words per day.

^_^ So I guess this means that I'm not the only writer that struggles with this issue, haha.

I don't think, though, with my work schedule I could do the daily word thing. -_-; I better just stick to weekly.

^_^ This week starts on a high note, though. Went to B&N with my sister. We sat there for a good four hours (Strawberries and Creme Frappechino!!). I got 988 words typed up, plus a few uncounted ones. However, some of it was rewrites for the same scene, at one point I even wrote [WHAT DOES THIS ADD TO THE CURRENT SCENE] (since it's a flashback kind of scene). After all was said and done, I was left with around 600 or so words. Whatever. As long as I'm typing I still find that the 988 counts as part of the goal. :[ It was 300 words worth of ways to NOT do the scene.

... My God...

This year's writing class's short story by me. No title yet. I think.

Here you go. A morning's work. No indents due to copy-paste, so deal.

I got bored yesterday and wrote an imaginary scene between my two leads.

Now I want to find some way to shove it into the story, because it turned out so well. HA! That's all right, I'm still way early in the story (thanks to my epic re-write... I'd blame Rivka, but he's turning out to be the best thing ever) so I want to throw in a couple of extra worldbuilding nuances.

and so... GO TRIFKIN GO!! I have confidence in you.

KKINO I FUKKIN LOVE YOU MAN

@Tsukihime's original soundtrack: Thinking a no. I almost tried it, but I think it's more easy listening than what I was going for.
