Hey guys,

Recently, I started writing my first attempt at a fantasy novel. I finished the prologue and thought I'd get some feedback on how it is overall. Please keep in mind that I'm no experienced creative writer (a chemical engineer by profession), and even back in school, I never had much interest in writing. I just enjoy reading books and listening to audiobooks and thought I'd try my hand at writing as well

So yeah, I know there will be problems with it, but I want some honest feedback to help me improve it

Here's a poem that I promise is completely unrelated to Zaraf's work.

Allow me to elucidate
You on this book that I do hate,
It's true, I wish to castigate
Its pages with this rhyme.

Its words are inconsiderate.
Its narrator illiterate.
The author is a prideful git
To think to waste our time.

Its metaphors are simile.
It lacks any complexity.
This work is a calamity,
Expunge it from my mind!

Although I'm not trying to win (you know, Guild Wars 2 obsession and all), I'm joining NaNoWriMo. At least as an excuse to write something.

I've been working on stuff, to keep me awake and not take naps. XD One of them is an Apocrypha of events that occurred during this RP I was in, while our characters were doing their thing and then bridging the gap of 16 years between the first and second generation.).

I'm claiming my current writing project as my nanowrimo yet again, 'cause I'm a filthy cheater. I did 52,000 words last month as part of that project, so, shouldn't be too hard to hit the nanowrimo target if I focus.

Have you ever watched a movie trailer or something similar and been inspired from it? I mean, you would think "oh, I'm just sitting here imagining the story this movie is probably taking" but 9 times out of 10 the story I created in my head is RADICALLY different than what the movie turned out being. Many times I'm absolutely disappointed with the movie just cause it did not match the story that I came expecting.

Heh, it's happened often enough to where I think I'm going to start writing down these story ideas. Not that it's happened recently but the next half of my post is semi connected to this thought.


So, since I OBVIOUSLY do this with MOVIE TRAILERS... it should be pretty obvious I do this with anime openings. ^_^;
Especially when I was back in high school and had not watched many anime yet. >_> I was so disappointed with Rurouni Kenshin because for the longest time after watching the anime opening I had downloaded to watch, I had seriously thought that Kenshin was a female. I blame the long hair and the pink shirt... IT'S FUCKING PINK!!

Anywho ^_^ was surfing through umineko soundtracks on youtube (yep - for my post in the chitchat topic) and one thing lead up to another and somehow I ended up watching anime openings. Like really old ones.

I have never watched this anime. I have actually been warned several times the anime sucks. However, that opening is... well... it inspires me. ^_^ I have sat back many times when I first saw it wondering what the story behind it was about.

I have gotten re-addicted to that stupid beautiful song (my god... I feel like I'm in high school again), so I actually did something last night that I keep telling myself to do every time I watch a movie trailer. Sit back and write out the story I think should be attached to it. It's inspired me - so I'm going to go with it.

^_^ I have written a tiny excerpt so far (which I'm not going to share) and come up with two characters and a tiny beginning of a storyline. Only one of the characters are similar to anyone in that opening. It's not about 'copying' what I see in it, but writing down my impressions and inspirations from it. I'm sure by the time I'm done it's not going to look much like the opening, though I'm sure there's still always going to be that underflow. It's been a while since I've been excited about writing something, though. Honestly, I don't think I've written much of anything this past year

So... this feels good.

Isn't this stupid? <_<; Heh oh well. For some reason it's got me excited and back into writing. Guess I'll just go with it until I get bored again

I started working on making a fictional language for one of my stories, it's coming along fairly well.

The language is question is to be the story's Orkish language, as such I'm aiming for kind of rough sounding, consonant heavy phonetics, so far I have the basic grammatical structure and verb conjugation figured out and am filling out the vocabulary (vulgarities taking something of priority, since they'll likely be used by the English speaking characters).

I'm working on this in tandem with shaping the dialect used by English speakers in the Orkish homeland of Moabar.

Hee. Fun idea: pick a word that is not a vulgarity in English and make it a vulgarity in Orkish.
