[s]o_o wtf.....
Umm, I'm very confused right now at the moment.....
OK sampson mentioned his program was counting letters and not words. So I decided to double check that my program was running fine since I just felt that I didn't have that many words - and I was right: instead of 5000 I'm at 977.
Uhh, this scares me REALLY bad. I'm using the same program I used back in '07 when I won. I opened up that old manuscript and it says 60000 words - which is what I won with. I upload it in the NaNoWriMo counter to test it out - it says 11,000 words.
T-T WTH? So I didn't really win back in '07? But, that's not possible!! In order to "win" you have to upload the manuscript into the counter. So, I know I "won". >_> They must have changed their word counter. It just bothers me to think that I didn't win back in '07 at all. But I know I did because the website updated and let me print out the kewl pdf "Award Certificate" and everything. You can't just go on there and type in 50000 and it will let you win, you have to upload it into the website's counter.
<_< Hrrrrrm.... so now after getting a bucket of cold water thrown in my face I'm going to go write some more. A part of me just died deep inside.[/s]
Ok, holy shit!! No, I'm fine!! XD OMG... *phew*
So, it seems that when I was uploading it into my LJ I was trying to cut and paste stuff and I guess I hacked something off. As soon as I was done with this post I saw that at the end of the document a sentence was stopped in the middle. o_O That's not like me. I know I stopped in the middle of the story but not in the middle of a sentence. Luckily I had this:
http://mcloz.net/deathsdoors.html
Which when copied and pasted came to the correct 50000 word amount that I won with. *phew* I DID WIN BACK IN '07!! Oh dear lord...
but my program says 247,000 words.... weird.... 'cause I know that's not what it said back then when I used it. :\ I'll see if a setting got fucked up or something.

PROBLEM FIXED!!
Sampson: Do you have your computer set in Japanese for Non-Unicode Programs? If so, set it back to English and it solves this problem. It did for me.
Damn, talk about a fucking panic attack. T-T But that also means that while I thought I was ahead, I'm actually behind. Well, at least I found the problem before next week or so.
I thought it seemed like I was reaching my word goal kinda fast. :\

I'm using Microsoft Word and, considering I'm half-way down page three, a count of 1,339 seems right.
First-person Heero is hilariously good fun. I'm writing his voice as very stiff and formal, and surprisingly insightful, which is a contrast to his stilted speech and actions. I've decided I'll experiment with switching between Heero and Duo's narratives as that will fit the story best.
Taking a small break to eat some lunch, then back to writing. I want to reach 2,000 words before I go to work.

Yeah, that's correct Kino.
LOL, yeah, it seemed so strange to me. It was like "hrrrm, I'm not even done with page two and I've already gotten 3000 words?" Last night I was just on cloud nine but I was so fucking excited of course I wasn't thinking straight. This morning it was just like "umm.... something really seems goofy about this. This is a little TOO easy. I don't remember it being this easy last year. My thoughts aren't flowing that nicely."
Anyways, I decided to NOT delete and just go with what I have. I really wanted to show some of Meix's life inside the Academy, but I think I'll do that in the form of occassional flashbacks if necessary. The thing is, the only reason I would show the Academy is to show his life and his "aww, I don't fit in

" complex. But I didn't - and don't - want to get trapped in that and start to bore my readers.
It's established, Meix looks weird and doesn't fit in. His running away demonstrates this even better. When he meets Horace and Alice he will have more than enough chance to explain all his thoughts and feelings and what exactly he's doing.

I just feel I missed a good opportunity to construct a "what's life like in a Magic Academy when you don't fit in". *sigh* But as fun as it would have been, if it's unnecessary it doesn't belong. I've been at this for too long to let myself fall into such a n00bish state of mind.
Besides: THERE'S BETTER AND FUNNER SCENES TO COME!! MWHAHAHAHA!!

Week 1 Pep-Talk :3
I love the stuff these things say. They always make ME feel good. But, <_< maybe that's just 'cause I'm a nerd who loves writing WAY too much.

Thanks, Maxine. It worked as well as that horse that's now dead I didn't do it shut up.
I realized my word counter was screwy when I had 700 words in a few paragraphs. And then I checked to see if it was working, then realized it was counting words. This was confirmed with the site's word counter, but now everything's fine.
So I continue to write...let's see if I can hit 3000...
ETA: I put up an excerpt from the beginning of the first chapter, which introduces each of Death's 10 original guests. I enjoyed the dialogue in that one.

My excerpt is the half page "prologue" I wrote up. It will probably be deleted in the future for something else and/or better, but for now it was a logical place to start so I didn't ahve to worry too much about setting up tiny details.

2,282 words and I'd keep going, except it is time for work. Blah! Stupid work.

I passed the daily goal for the second day...
This is good, very good.
And I still don't feel tired of writing today.

Don't forget to update your word count on the website Kino! It's got a cute day-by-day graph that helps you see how you are progressing! :3

My, my. It looks like we're all overachievers aren't we?
And the bar graph is awesome. Slow progression is awesome as well.
