I would be comfortable with M&M cake, yes.

I can throw myself on the grenade of M&M cake if necessary. I will make this sacrifice for you.

My husband is going on a diet. As part of my endearing efforts to be a good wife, I will begin putting less food on his plate when I make and present his dinner.

He's just generally worried about how much weight he's gained over the last few years. He's got love-handles. I love how cuddly and strong his arms are, but I could do without the pudge around his middle -- so, I'm helping him.
I am worried about the fact I'm leaving Friday for like 9 days. We've never been apart that long. The longest we've been separated since we got married was the, what, 2-3 nights he spent at AWP.
I went to the store today and bought a lot of food he can make for himself ... hopefully. I got fixings for meals the rest of the week, too. The only thing I didn't get was travel-sized toothpaste. I might not bother, though. I'll just bum from whoever's house I end up while I'm in Oklahoma.
Tonight's dinner will be ravioli in meat sauce with italian bread.

Diet wise, I'm a pretty big fan of the low-carb approach (<100g a day at least; I personally just do <20g). Intermittent Fasting helps due to my schedule (basically just ... don't eat at work) but I suppose that isn't for everyone really. The is, personally, easy to stick to as it's basically meat and veggies eating and that's stupid amounts of crazy easy to stick to for me (fuck you, I get to eat steak).
It's debated a lot but I still think that Dr. Taube's is a good read for approaching dieting. At the very least, it's a look into why strict CICO doesn't work as often as one would expect based off ... well, everything people know about CICO.
A few pounds or hundreds of pounds, learning about nutrition and weight loss is a good thing to do. It's not all about restricting yourself to bland food and struggling day in and day out. It's not about running miles a day to burn calories.

^ Last thing I heard was that meta-analyses for non/pre-medical diets are still mostly weak. PLA'd like to stick with the "eat some of everything" approach to approximate not eating too little of anything and not eating too much of anything.

I'm not going to buy/cook different for him, just serve him less food and keep healthy/low calorie snacks around for when he stress eats. If he can't stop the stress eating, he'll at least stress eat, say, a handful of grapes, rather than an entire bag of egg noodles.
Currently I'm a bit annoyed that my husband seems to be thrusting his weight anxieties on to me. He's obsessed with trying to tell me that I've gained weight/have gotten stomach pudge, and that I should eat less/eat better in order to prevent myself from getting fat. ... wtf, I just ignore him.
