So, for all those Umineko spoiler-fluent people, (oh god spoilers)
Is there a reason given for not revealing the truth in Ep.8?
About that (spoilers of spoilers of spoilers of spoilers etc.)
Basically, the message put forth throughout Game 8 is that there's an essential part of the mystery overlooked: Why is there a mystery at all? What does the truth mean for the in-universe characters? No true solution is put forth because there's no need for one for the story attempting to be told.
If you wish, you can take the final game put forth as the true solution (Kyrie, Rudolph, and Battler as the killers/unwitting accomplice). Also, the invasion sequence plays out like the truths stated are literal truths ... though that leads to some odd shit, really (like ... Jessica making up Kanon entirely odd shit).
Personally, I just think Ryukishi didn't have the balls to end it in any way that preferred one camp over the other; might as well flip things on all of them at once.
I see. (spoilers and such)
I guess the only mystery that needed an answer was answered in Ep.7, then...
Though that seems like hardly anything to make an entire game out of...hopefully the story doesn't seem to stretched. Oh, well, there's always Pirate Erika.
But still, it's a bit disappointing that there was no definitive "true" answer. I mean, I first learned about Umineko after End came out, but when a mystery is posed, it's natural to theorize and desire an answer. Although, I guess Will (sort of) provided an answer to all that, too.
Honestly, the acceptability of an answer, provided it was at least somewhat foreshadowed, is much more related to the author's ability to convey that answer, not so much the answer itself...ideally, of course.
Oh, well. Kyrie shoots a bunch of people, so at least I got to see that.

Spoilersetc.
Well, by the end of Game 4, the answer is there and the game is fully solvable. The problem, though, isn't getting a solution--the problem is narrowing it down to the true solution. Games 5-8 start eliminating suspects and such. It's possible to go back with all the new evidence and maybe narrow it down to "THE ONE TRUE CULPRIT" but I haven't tried.
That and I was actually satisfied with Game 8's resolution. Minus the whole cocktease about the true solution and all ("LOL HERE'S THE SOLUTION JUST READ IT READ IT READ IT lol nope sry reader").
And, really, the whole situation with "Why the games exist" and Ange makes me think the Kyrie/Rudolph is probably the solution, along with the unwitting/unknowing Battler accomplice bit. It makes sense as to Battler's heel face turn, as it were, and the entire focus on Ange and hiding the truth from her (as tragic as any family solution is, HER family would be the most tragic).
Basically, Game 8 is just "Ange's life sucks hard" and "Goddamn, sorry about that Eva."
plus, HAPPY KINZO made me lol.
Edit: Forgot the greatest reason for no solution ... a "real" excuse for Umineko Kai for full-out milking~
I feel obliged to mention that Ever17 is getting a remake on the 360.
...with "meh" 3D modeling:
Summer 2011 release.
Edit: Forgot to mention, there will be new endings.
and probably never localized. Or maybe it will, since 999 did so well and Uchikoshi [Chunsoft] was on that. You hear that Aksys?
And maybe the translation won't be kind of butchered so some plot points aren't left to some divining to find the truth.
The 3D models suck, but the prospect of new endings is fuck awesome.
T-T PLLLLLEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSEEEEEE SOMEONE LOCALIZE IT!!!!
.....

what are the chances that we could get Atlus to do it. No, no, don't tell me. It's a rhetorical question. I already know the answer and it makes me sad.

It's not the characters that I enjoyed, actually. I didn't like the girls, either, Illumi, but it was Shiki that made the story awesome for me. It's what pisses me off most about the fucking anime. They made Shiki such a FUCKING EMO DWEEB!!
How far have you gotten? If you have reached the end Nero (Nvr-FUCKIT), and still don't appreciate it, maybe you should drop.
Anyways, my favorite FAVORITE story is definitely Kohaku's in terms of girls, but in terms of Shiki's general AWESOMENESS, Akiha's.
I found Arcueid's story so fucking cliche and just fuck boring. She also ruined Ciel's ending for me. *eye roll* Damn bitch. Shiki should have just finished her off.
