As someone who hated the notion of the iPad pre-launch, I feel like saying something. It is a phenomenal device for the niche it fills: an ebook reader that functions as a media device. The larger screen size makes it an amazing device for reading on (books, manga, etc.), browsing websites, and watching video. To say otherwise is pretty silly, barring a general dislike of LCD displays or "must be paper or else" folks.

As a tablet, there is nothing wrong with the iPad. The hardware isn't bad, though the v2 isn't really a huge upgrade since it still lacks the retina display. I haven't tried many other tablets (mmm, Xoom...) but, really, tablets themselves are good devices and the iPad is a fine example of one. Plus, the robust app store makes it all the more appealing; when the other app stores (seriously, Google Market is pretty fucking barren) catch up it'll be a far different comparison.

As for $200 iPods, I'd pay that for the retina display in a heartbeat. And I still have a perfectly functional iPod touch.

Edit: And the better CPU/GPU, obviously. I want to run Infinity Blade in its full glory >>

Also it is beautiful and four times the capacity of my old Nano and a REALLY BIG TOUCH SCREEN. And it is awesomer than Zach's. Plenty of reasons, really.
