Well, I did journey forth to Borders, but they didn't have much manga left.
I did scoop up:
plus two history books:
There were a ton more history books I'd have loved to have purchased, including some great Oxford University Press titles and some primary source collections, but, sadly, I just didn't have the funds. I might venture back if they start hitting 75% off to see what's left in the history section. The manga were half-price at least, so that's cool. I'm hoping Borders settles up some its debts -- I was reading in PW about TokyoPop having to fire nearly 50% of its operating staff due to Border's assholery with its net 30 agreements. I've been concerned for a while about BLU (TokyoPop's yaoi division) only releasing about 1 book a month. It's always a shame with a yaoi imprint collapses, especially when they take licenses down with them (looking at you, DramaQueen).
Not that Borders ever really carried many yaoi titles -- but at least they carried them, as opposed to B&N, which, to my knowledge, doesn't carry any yaoi imprints -- not even DMP's June line, certainly not BLU or 801 Media or any of the others which, sadly, I suspect are struggling due to the extremely limited shelf market they can get.
Anyway, not to turn this into a "save the manga!" tangent, these are my recent purchase. I've already read two of the yaoi books, so look forward to reviews in the appropriate thread either tonight or tomorrow (not that I expect anyone to care).
Incidentally I've wanted Empires of the Word for years now, so I'm super stoked about that purchase.
