Well, our mom works for an airline and gets really cheap deals on flights for the family, so I suppose we do travel a lot, in the US and Canada at least. But this time we're going to Mexico with a group from our church to build houses, and stopping in California on the way home.

@Kimiko I don't have any problem with the typography on that cover. Is the cover really so bad to you that you would not consider the contents of the book because of it? Now, perhaps if this were a (prescriptive) book about typography... but it isn't. Would you be receptive to the cover of other editions of the book?

HarperCollins Feb 2005 Hardcover:

Harper Perennial 2006 Paperback:

Folio Society 2010 Hardcover:

Btw, I'm not trying to sell you on this particular book. I'm just curious about your reaction to the cover.

Oh, it's just the ugly ligatures I hate. The first two images you posted look quite interesting actually because I find different scripts intriguing.
The third gets thumbs down because it looks boring old-school hardcover (seriously, this is the 21st century, hardcover books don't need to look like 19th century tomes anymore; add some color and design already).

I'd totally buy any of the three negzee posted over the one I did buy, but whatev -- I don't really care about what the book looks like so much as the contents are quality, the binding's tight, the text readable, etc.

C'mon, Kimiko, haven't you heard? Don't judge a book by its cover!

I found a fantastic little used bookshop downtown. The owner was very friendly, we chatted for a bit. I have my eye on a few I didn't buy today that I might go back and get later, including an absolutely gorgeous hardcover illustrated edition of JM Robert's History the World.

I did scoop up these pretties (pictures from the web, my exact books are the same editions however):

A great little biography of my beloved Ludwig. It's a very cute little book.

Actually a two volume set. I'd been looking for something like this for a while now, so I'm quite pleased.

I have most of the Gies's major treatises (Life in a Medieval City, Life in a Medieval Village, Life in a Medieval Castle), so I'm pleased to add this one to my collection. The only one that remains, of the major works, is Marriage and Family in the Middle Ages. It's not a very comprehensive volume, but fits nicely into my other books on the subject.

With these new editions I also organized my bookcase. So lovely <3 They're in order by subject, and within subjects, chronology. My pretties. My lovely pretties <3

Had a few quid spare in my PSN wallet so picked this up for my PSP, really digging the chiptunes and the pixel art, plus the gameplay is pretty good too

Oh, I forgot to mention; the Ludwig biography was published in 1936 on the 50th anniversary of the king's death. It's in great shape for such an old book. There's some lovely color plates of Neuschwanstein's interior.

The oldest building in Oklahoma was from, like, 1888.

Here in Virginia there are a couple of 18th and 17th century homes downtown that have been turned into museums. My friend in VA Beach lives right by a 18th century house/museum, too. Then of course there's Williamsburg and Jamestown, and First Landing State Park.

But even still we're talking, at max, 400 years.

I like the badass ancient tome look, because [s]I need something like that for my Harry Potter roleplay[/s] gold on black seems classy.
