I take it it isn't hugely popular in the US then? It's not that well known in Japan either, though it did pick up a lot of awards. I'm surprised at how much stuff does get licensed and published over there though, there must be a real demand for manga.

When I left the UK the only films I'd heard of were Akira, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, and I'd never seen or read any manga, so either the scene has exploded since then or the level of interest is wildly different across the pond.

Money isn't a problem here, I pick up all my manga for about $1/105 yen second-hand.
