I guess its not really the community that TOTALLY gets me, but whats always happened to me and every MMO I played is that the MMO's actual gameplay portion is utterly terrible, or the community is so full of 12-14 year olds who just wanna cyber it wouldn't matter anyways.

Wait a sec, a Shin Megami Tensei MMO? Where HAVE you been all these years Maxine?

yeah, MMOs hardly impress me at all as well. I'm just as picky as you are. I'm really not sure WHAT it is that I like about Cabal, but something about it is absolutely entertaining for me that I'm able to ignore the repetitiveness. MegaTen is more fun, if you don't mind the annoying slow gait of the characters across this VAST world.

I've never received any invitations to cyber in any of them, and most people seem fairly intelligent. Chatting with those who are younger than me has never been an issue as long as the conversation was good.

And, yep, a MegaTen MMO. It's actually really nice. Not as nice as it COULD be, but I've had a LOT of fun with it when I get into it. Just make sure you are a gunner otherwise demons SMEAR you and you are far more dependent on buddies helping you through. Also, you really got to get use to the idea of using TWO characters. The demons are kinda set to SORTA auto-attack/whatever, but never dependably. :3 But this is a fun aspect to me as well. I feel really connected to my demons like that XD

I can't promise your experiences will be as good as mine, but both of these games had some element that attracted me so I'm fairly confident in recommending them to others.

Just to note: I never got that far in MegaTen, as much as I love it. I wasted a lot of time on a sword-based character and switched to a gunner but got pulled away from the game.

Cabal I have a character in the 100s (110? I think?) and then another character that I use occasionally near the 60ish range. There's still a lot in Cabal I have left to learn. :3

Ugh.

Got roped into hanging out with girls who wanted to watch glee videos and make wedding registries with $100-300 items on it from Williams & Sonoma and talk about romantic songs to dance to and then watch said songs on youtube and shut the fuck up stop singing please can we look at Dead Island trailers again or make cock jokes oh god no why are we watching disney wedding dress fashion catwalks WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU

AHHHH GIRLS ARE SO STUPID AND BORING

I don't even know what to do with the fact that I can't handle being about girls who look scandalized when I make dick jokes and swear and want to see shit blow up and talk about video games

this is why Nathan was my BFF -- he was the perfect mix of hilarious crude dude and cooperative fun-having catty gossipy girl

;____; I miss him so much. He was perfect.

this is why you should come to me in PA, Kino. :( I would be your BFF..

Well, the dick jokes would be a little off for me at first but only because I've never had anyone that would make such jokes and I wouldn't have any of my own. But I wouldn't look "scandalized". Mildly surprised and impressed, probably... or slow on the catch.

T-T maybe I wouldn't make such good BFFs with Kino. <_< I could just be a BF then? I can do the blowing shit up part and the video games part.

Wait a sec, am I reading this right?

This is the story of CABAL?

note, the sentences in the parenthesis are my thoughts while reading this the first time.

Long ago the CABAL, a powerful group of idealistic men, used their powers to change the continent of Nevareth into a utopia.

(Oh hey, these must be the bad guys that I'm probably supposed to face, I'm guessing they evolved or something.)

But the laws of nature rebelled against them and laid the continent to waste. During the Apocalypse, almost every member of Cabal perished, leaving only seven of them
and their leader, Faust.

(Oh, okay, thats odd, so I guess now he's resurrected the team and like, the god of the forest will help you I guess?)

Looking deep into future, Faust saw the rise of an evil that would once again bring the land of Nevareth to ruin. Now, almost a thousand years later, that evil has begun its domination of the continent as prophesied. It is up to you to face the waves of minions that have invaded Nevareth,
and uncover the evil behind it.

(Woah woah woah, hold up there. So your telling me mother nature and save the plants that destroyed evil utopia makers is actually evil!? Wha-Whe- How!?
A few seconds ago the laws of nature was a GOOD thing. I guess it could have got corrupted, but who do you corrupt NATURE!? I quess this would make a cool plot twist, but you don't add plot twists until the game as started.
Maybe I'm just misinterpreting the entire thing and the first few sentences where trying to say that the forces of nature are evil but the way they write doesn't make it seem that way.)
If I were gonna write it, I would probably write it something like this:

Long ago, the very peaceful and unicorn rainbow leprechaun group CABAL used there happy rainbow powers to make the world a happy utopia.

But the evil force of evil nature blew it up, and stuff, so then there was seven jolly CABAL left and a dude called Faust the merry

Now its about a thousand years later and the evil force of evil nature is coming back again. So your going on a journey to kill it and find out its secrets.
And stuff

Here, Googly, let me give you some vids to show you all the things I like about Cabal. The story is not one of them.

Note, in all of these videos, they are showing the OLD UI that has now been replaced in the game.

From the main site:
http://www.cabal.com/Movie/Detail?boardIdx=2335

PVP!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=It872dhvrcM

Classes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37dVjRhiiaA

Oh and here's a fun vid that was made when a contest was held to make a dance video (there's DANCING in Cabal which replenishes your SP). It's just a fun vid one of the elitist guilds made, but it has a lot of good stuff in it :3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96CnrTKKAsA

Some notes on fighting:
MP is replenished automatically as long as you have the bottles in your inventory. The game (and realize I've not played many others so I dunno if these are features in others I've not played) is set up so that you continue to loop through your skills you have equipped automatically, going back to the first one once it's been reloaded. Fighting is flashy and fast. The dungeons are immense and difficult and requires other players. Leveling up can be fairly easy, though at other times fairly difficult.

At a certain point in the game, you must choose which nation you want to be in which plays a huge roll in the game as you can then enter the nation war channel and other areas and be allowed to kill those of other nations for points. :3

Errrm, what else. Awww, I dunno what it is that attracts me to this game. <_< *shrugs* It's just... fun.

i like to jump around to see if there is an MMO i like. Usually, i can find one that'll occupy me for a week or two, then i get bored and find another one. I think I've tried about 15-ish?
anyways, i don't really play them for story, cause most dont really try to follow it.
The only one that i've found to make a story is Trickster Online, and it is actually pretty good. (they keep you occupied with story quest and you hardly ever have to grind)

Punching people is very romantic, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

MMOs can be fun for a while, but eventually you'll get bored with doing the same things over and over and not having new stuff to explore. They also suck up huuuge amounts of time, so if there are other things you enjoy you won't have the time to play an MMO.

I think that's why I like Cabal. There are three locations to explore and you can only do certain parts as you level up, and by the time you start to get sick of those three locations, new locations start opening up, and then you get to enjoy the dungeons, and start having reasons to party with other people. I really feel the game is spaced out very well. But, yeah, HUGE time sucks.

With MegaTen, there is the demon fusion aspect to keep you interested, though seriously, I REALLY got annoyed with how the game treated me as a sword-user. :[

I guess I might have been looking for an MMO to waste some time on when bored. I'll check this one out, though I'm not someone that likes PvP stuff, unless I choose to and are actually equal to the opponents (which is why I question the PK system they have).
Though I have yet to really get into any MMO outside WoW. Played around with the idea of getting back into THAT, even. Including making yet another gnome mage (what can I say? I found mages really fun in that game, and female gnomes are cute). Or the new worgen.
I am playing around with the idea of getting Guild Wars 2, since my brother is probably going to get on it.

Sirth, let me clarify some things with Cabal:

You can turn off PvP invitations (but, yes, you are INVITED and have to accept). And you can click on anyone's name at any time to check their level. Also, if you do not want to be PK'ed, the channels that are colored prevent it from occurring. If you do get PK'ed, it's not a big deal anyways. You get sent back to the town. I can't remember if there is a death penalty, but I don't think so, and then they get points attached to them or something and they get sent to prison.

(Note: it's kinda funny. Some people purposely go to prison because they are convinced there is an exit SOMEWHERE... some have devised ways with glitching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fK0qSJz-ukc LOL)

Then there are the the nation war zones. Certain maps allow for nation pk'ing. You get points for these kills. These maps make a point of it, so you'll know what you are heading into. And finally there is the nation war channel, where EVERY area, including the towns, you are allowed to battle people of the other nation. Actually this can be outrageously fun. Most of the time it's a very silent area, but once in a while, a group of people will hop on there and they'll battle in a town for supremacy.

If you are a newbie who has no nation yet, stay out of this channel. You are fodder for both nations. :3

Another big attraction for Cabal and for me, you are, in a way, rewarded for being offline. A little marker tracks how long you've been away and you get 200% experience points until you hit the marker. T-T This is always nice for when I've not been able to get on and really wish I could be leveling up. o_O And really funny when I'm off for long stretches of time and start leveling up.

I do think Cabal's item shop is a little expensive and it pisses me off. :[ Once in a while I would like to consider purchasing something but it's just too much money and often it's a "30 day item". >_> I dunno if it's improved over the months. I mean, they did switch from being on OGPlanet to being on their own, so I guess they kinda needed to start seeing profit in some way, but SERIOUSLY?! :(

Again, I really don't know why I like Cabal so much. It's repetitive and sometimes frustrating with bots in certain areas. >_> But, I've seriously had a LOT of fun in it. :3 You know what, after talking about it so much now I feel the urge to get back on it.

I've got characters on both servers, but my main server with Morren is on Mercury. I'm a Blader :3

Also, one of the other more kewler things on Cabal :3 there is a Jukebox. Well, ok, that may not be that impressive at first BUT if you go into the cabal folder, and then dump some music in the "jukebox" folder, you get to listen to your favorite music easily through the game.

The ONLY thing you need to do (and I dunno if they changed this but doubtful) is you just need to convert them to .ogg files. Easy, though. There's like millions of those sorts of programs. This is the one I use: http://koyotstar.free.fr/indexEn.html

:3 Just one of those little things that pleases me. You can then easily switch from game music to your own music at any time. Though honestly, Cabal does have some nice pieces in it. Though, again I dunno if this has changed since they were doing major updates to the UI when I left, during certain dungeons your music is turned off and it switches. o_O This was incredibly frustrating back in '08 and '09 since it would glitch and both music tracks would play. They fixed that glitch though during the move to their own servers. *phew* I was so happy.

Once it's installed and such, I'll see about swinging on and trying it out.

Don't know if I'll be a wizard or an archer.
