So I'm thinking about swearing off any game that is multiplayer, or I would like to play multiplayer.

Everyone else would think it's because of the people one would meet online. Others would argue for boredom.

No.

It's because, since the middle of March, at random points in time, my internet connection would rise to pings of 1000, to 3000, to random spikes at 10k-15k. And by random, I mean normal one day, then in a split second (yes, I mean that, I saw it while playing LoL), fucking slow the next.

And everyone just gives me shit for solutions. It's because a lot of people are online. It's because of the rain.

So at this point, there goes our glorious 150 kbs downloads, replaced with Steam not working, MSN not working, nothing working.

Turn off your microwave and don a tin foil hat. Boost signal ratio by 1.37V.

Edit: Anyway, what kind of connection? Behind a router?

How. The Bloody Hell. Is that supposed to work.

EDIT: It's DSL, wireless, behind a router. We're also very close to the site it's coming from.

And apparently my sister is not having problems, which means it might be the wireless.

Yeah, it's most likely the wireless. Wireless is a pretty crummy source of internetz for gaming (though I haven't messed with 802.11N much...). The "herp derp" check is to make sure you are in fact connected to your wireless; it seems silly but I've had my PS3 sometimes auto-connect to someone else's wireleess with no signal strength and I never bothered to check since, well, why would it have done that, y'know?

Next is to make sure your wireless is password protected (and god don't use WEP; I think babies can break that with a prize out of a cereal box). Dedicated (i.e., single user) wireless isn't too terrible but the introduction of other nodes makes it a hassle as you enter a situation of conflicting interests as the access point services one request at a time and there's no queueing situation; if the AP is busy, you merely are delayed for a random amount of time before trying again. Passwording it at least hopefully stops some random users on it. Hell, for all you know the issue is someone has an iPod touch on your wireless.

Besides that, I suppose there's some port issues to work with but that really shouldn't be the root cause of the problem here of "sometimes it works, sometimes it's dogshit."

Eating tortilla chips, a little piece flew off and went in my eye.

Most unpleasant.

So about a month ago I finally got accepted to The University of Washington. Which is just a wretched God awful place to try and transfer to when you've already been a university student. It took me a good few years to pad my transcripts to the point where I could get in. Anyway. I'm attending summer quarter, which starts on the 20th (As in like 3.5 business days from now) and the financial aid office still hasn't gotten back to me. Now I basically know how much aid I'm getting, so I'm not really worried about not being able to pay for my classes, but its still frustrating to not even know what your financial aid package is less than a week before you're supposed to start class. I mean, I have to buy books and don't actually have the money until I get my aid.

I know its not just me, because I've called them a few times, apparently they're processing 2000 summer aid applications by hand, which apparently takes a long fucking time. But seriously, how could it get put off for this long. I know what my aid package is going to be like, but what about the hundreds of summer students that don't know, and might not be able to pay tuition if its not sufficient? They just prepare to start school on the 20th, and then find out on the 17th that they're not getting enough aid to pay for it? I know the school is under a heavy budgetary constraints, but they couldn't take on 1 more temporary employee? From February to July while all the FAFSA shit was going on?

And summer classes (at least my upper division history ones) were like "please read 200 pages tonight. The 'midterm' is Friday. Good luck, motherfucker"

Also my school turned the A/C off to save money, so it was 110 fucking degrees outside and we were roasting in the classrooms and OH THE HUMANITY

If it isn't a first world problem, it isn't a problem. /Trollface

Hmm, I don't have a place to live in this area for much longer. Moving would reset my local geography knowledge, contacts, and public transportation knowledge.
Which took me years to amass. I was just starting to move around easily and feel confident about finding a job eventually. I really don't navigate cities well.
Well, then there's someone in my life who openly doesn't want me to gain too much independence. /possessive family rant
Part rant/compliant but the video helps you understand what I mean. That's how I feel... so it's my own opinion...

That horrible necessity to create wars for no reason... only leads others to believe that war is the only way to work things out... the human race... is disgusting... yes... including me, because I too am a human. I am sick. Vile. Putrid. Detestable. Disgusting. I am. A human being. Look at what I have done, not only to myself but to those around me.

I love she X)
