Re: Rant/Complain Thread: BUMMER IN THE SUMMER~
Actually wondering if anyone has any experience with this:
I'm currently a full time student and my financial aid covers all my tuition and living costs, so I don't really NEED a job right now (probably towards the end of the year I would), but I want to save up some money so I decided to get a low commitment, flexible, job on campus. I applied for a few positions, and ended up interviewing with the campus wide IT service center on Friday. I thought that I bungled the interview, as I hadn't had one in 3 years, and was worried that this would be the end of my winning streak of being offered every job I've interviewed for, but they emailed me today to offer me the job. Today I interviewed with the IT department for the Department of Pathology, which besides paying more, focuses less on over the phone help desk stuff. I totally slayed that interview, did way better than I did in the first one.
So heres the problem: They said I was the first person they interviewed and that they have a bunch more, and wont be able to get back to me until next week. Meanwhile I have an offer for a job that pays less, and I want less, that starts training at the start of next week. I'd say I'm about 70% sure I'll get the second job. Do I turn down the offer? Do I tell the first job that I'm waiting for a response? Anyone ever have this problem?

Spring: Sign up for European History 2.
Labor Day: Syllabus sent out, shows European History 1. Teacher says to wait, there is an error.
First day of School: Teacher says the REAL class is History 1, and History 2 never existed. Told to sign up for class I already took.
Hilarity* Ensues.

In this day and age, Starfe, you really cannot be too careful with jobs.
I'd suggest doing this: be open with them. If they do not want to "wait" or anything, then go through the motions of 'getting the job' and actually settling into it.
If it turns out you get the second job then just quit the first one *shrugs* It might not be the most honorable or noble thing but you WERE originally honest with them by telling them the situation.
I just don't think you should turn down a job that says they will hire you - even if you are completely certain you will get the other job. See, you were certain you wouldn't get the first one, weren't you?
^_^; But this is coming from someone who obviously has very low self-confidence. haha I don't just my judgement worth shit sometimes.

Re: Rant/Complain Thread: BUMMER IN THE SUMMER~
Okay so getting a cold on the second week of school sucks. Having to write a response paper to a movie you saw last week in one night sucks. Doing it while you have a cold and the cold medicine is starting to kick in? Really not fun.
But hey, I survived!

I loathe young children. Now excuse me, whilst I rub the crayon, sweat, juice, and sticky substance off of my computer.

Re: Rant/Complain Thread: BUMMER IN THE SUMMER~
Thanks to Kino and Maxine for providing sound advice! Pretty much everyone I asked yesterday either said, "Stop living off my tax dollars and accept the first job you lazy shit." or "Who cares if you piss off the first job?" Yeah. I've never been in this position before. All previous times where I've been offered 2 jobs I had been offered the better job first, which made the choosing easy. I'm going to email this guy back in a minute and let him know I'm accepting it. It will probably be a little awkward if I get the other one, but I'll just have to deal with that. I'm never at the UW Tower anyway, so I doubt I'll ever see this dude again.
