So, I was either dragged into or signed up for a LARP-esque thingy, and built myself a weapon. A short spear. Due to the safety regulations on it, it looks like a deformed baseball bat.

Now, I need some way to make it look like a spear. Or else, just something else really cool that doesn't break safety regs.

Too short for distance tactics, too heavy for agility tactics, complete lack of slashing/bashing ability, stupidly easy to grapple.

It's got two striking points, though. Right?

Spears in LARPing are a bad idea in the first place. Say I come at someone with a real spear, and hit, they now have a hole in them, they'll bleed out soon enough, and this way, they can't reach me.
I go out LARPing, I come at someone with a spear and hit, their fat wiggles a bit, they say "ow" grab it, throw it away, and deal out foam punishment with a rage that only Cheetos and Mountain Dew can sustain.

Maybe if you added a shield like ancient Romans, that way, if they grab it, you can ram the guy with your shield as you reclaim your spear, I can see that working.

One of the two leaders of our group used a short spear and was devastating, but in general they are not a good idea. Sword and Board is what most beginners should start with, I started with a two-hand sword. Swords or clubs are a good starting weapon.

Edit:

The foam is new enough, you can rip it apart and cut the PCV or bamboo or whatever you used as a core down to sword length. (A good length for a starting sword is having the tip of the sword just brush the ground when you let your arm swing down. Remember there will be 1-2 inches of foam on the tip when cutting your core.) Then just re-use the foam. Voila, sword.

Spears are, in fact, not useless because if you hit them they still take damage according to the rules (tag a limb it's out, tag the body they die). The foam on the spear is minimal as fuck (mostly just the padding on the tip) and already glued and taped together together over a PVC core. I'm looking to add a shield already (shield bashing is not an allowed thing sadly). Giving it a second striking tip would not actually help me (it's just be two points to have trouble hitting with. The problem with length is that the spear is sword length. It's a short spear.

I am considering acquiring a single-edged sword with a stabbing tip as an alternate (read: new primary) weapon. Alternatively, a five foot glaive. The difference between a sword and a club is that a sword has flats, and they balance differently.
