*sigh* Sitting here a little depressed tonight. <_< Just money problems and shit. Just... things that I want but can't get. Things that I need can't get. And my crappy job and that the only other job I have to look forward to going to that will offer a pay raise is... just... bullshit. I really don't want my sister's job. I don't like the stories that she tells me. I don't even think I would be all that good at it. Yes, the money is a nice idea, but... I want to do something that I will also be happy in. *sigh* I guess I'm not suppose to be picky and it would be better than my fast food job.

Well, whatever. First, I really need a car. -_-;
It's just really depressing sitting back and wanting stupid things like video games and consoles and books and wanting to get other people things...

It is better to get as comfortable as you can with the highest sensitivity possible, if performance is a concern. Increase it, play for a day, increase it more, and go as far as you can before you feel you cannot just adapt to it any longer and it's out of hand. Of course, it all varies from game to game, and roles within.

If you are playing a fast-paced shooter where anyone can come from anywhere, you must have a high sensitivity.

Eg.

QL demands you can flick rocket jump one moment, and rail with precision from across the map a split second later.

However, a lot of snipers will prefer lower sensitivities. Even if they rely on flick shots, they find the need to make quick 180s are not that important. This cannot be said for everyone. I know someone who plays snipers in every game, and she plays with it cranked up pretty high. She is also one of the best TF2 players on the prairies (not saying much I guess), so she has to be doing something right. In any event, shooters (especially multiplayer) demand immense skill with relatively good competition, so it matters here more than anything.

Next game category to look at is click-to-move. This is your older MMORPGs (like Ragnarok Online), your MOBAs (League of Legends) things like that. You always want a high sensitivity here. In general these games are very generous with targeting and take little skill to play well. Most of the time abilities feature some degree of smart-targeting (easy to target friends with help, easy to target enemies with hurt), so you can get by just fine with whatever you use for the rest of your computer and it does not need to be optimal.

Last item is your third-person games, which can vary a bit from shooters. Again, these are easier to work with. Games like World of WarCraft and Guild Wars 2 do most of the work for you and are very easy to play, so you only need to worry about the speed in which you turn your camera, as targeting will never be an issue. Of course if you get into your skill-indexed third-person games, then you may or may not need to make some tweaks to find what you like. Playing Priest in TERA was fine without really thinking about sensitivity (though I still had it high for mobility purposes), picking off an object moving at high speed as an Archer is something that takes a bit of finesse.

All in all, the best compromise is having as much mouse space as possible. This way, no matter how low your sensitivity is, you can make sharp turns in one gesture without hassle. For that I have my sexy Steelseries Qck+, which could serve as a dinner mat for a five course meal if one would desire such a thing. I run my mice at 1000 DPI (up from 800 in my teenage years) for general purposes, which is reasonably fast. As always, for best feedback you will leave your hardware sensitivity as is with raw input (acceleration and assisted precision are bad!), change your hardware C/DPI, and tweak sensitivity from within a game if possible.
