I modded my 3DS with a battery that roughly triples its life at full charge. Extensive use of 3D cuts that by about 30-40% but it still lasts quite a while. This thing can go for ages even with extensive use. (^_^)

Playing EO4 most of the day, with 3D off, and using sleep mode while not playing (e.g. overnight), my 3DS XL needs recharged once a day. I'm not sure what the brightness setting is (probably max?). This is about the same as my DS Lite and DSi.

Being an XL, it didn't have one of those cradle thingies with it. I don't see the need for that though. The charger from my DSi fits my 3DS XL, and the cord is long enough that I can play while it's charging.

It is a convenience thing. Whenever I take wing, I do not need to worry about tying the wire around something to avoid having to bend over and fish around for it later. No need to wobble it around to get into the socket. Just pack up for work, pick it up and put it into my bag, come home and throw it onto the pad without any cumbersome wires. The XL version in particular has a nice groove that requires less precise placement than the original 3DS dock.

At least, the lack of a charging dock was enough to bother me into buying one... and I am happy with every coin spent.
