I got hired at this pizza place because I had a year of experience from my last job, also I got to start a buck higher than minimum wage. It's a completely different store system, this one is more like a fastfood joint and my old one was slow and customized. Today the store owner pulled me aside today and said she's docking my pay because I'm not living up to what she thought I would with a year's experience elsewhere. She asked me if that was fair, to which I said sure because I don't want to get fired. Then she's all like you're not angry, right?

OF COURSE I'M FUCKING ANGRY. Those are two mutually exclusive fucking things. The reason I took another pizza job was because I could start at a higher fucking wage. Why the FUCK would I ever stick around for the same I can get elsewhere? That horse shit flies when nobody can get a job, but finding a job is easy here right now, especially for minimum wage.

Before tonight I would have honesty told you I thought I was doing a good job. Now I have to make sure my budget is ok with less money, and start looking for a different minimum wage job if docking my pay down to minimum wage doesn't pacify my boss.

I'm almost in tears, I haven't cried in over a year. I have a bunch of schoolwork to do and I'm running on 3 hours of sleep. Argh.

That and you Americans have no rights when it comes to employment.

I'm Canadian, but it's fairly similar here.

This is phrased nicer than my response I typed out last night, but Garret, have you actually ever had a job?

If the boss comes up to you and tells you you aren't doing well enough and that your pay is getting docked, that is not the time to say anything. 9 times out of 10 you don't have any say as a disposable worker. Fact of life.

I felt like a terrible person this afternoon on the way to work. At one of the bus stops a young lady got on who was very clearly having a bad day (she got on the bus saying "Are you fucking serious?" about the gentleman who was walking away when we came up... who was angrily signing "f*ck you" from a distance) and she couldn't find/didn't have her student bus pass (ACC students get to ride for free, I think). The bus driver couldn't let her ride without fare or a pass. The girl said it was her only way home and then angrily got off the bus, punching the window on her way. x.X

The reason I feel terrible? When I have cash, I carry at least a dollar when I go to ride the bus specifically in case someone doesn't have bus fare or a valid pass. I got as far as getting the quarters out of my pocket before the girl left the bus. I could've asked the driver to stop, though. I mentally kicked myself for like an hour afterward.

Bus fare is $3.00 for an hour and a half here. I have paid for people but it sucks because they've been people trying to take advantage of the driver 2/3 times.

Ugh. That has happened to me before, the bus drivers in Seattle are usually goodly enough to let you on without fare unless you look crazy. Its always awful when you realize you didn't help when you could have. Normally I don't have the change on me for that though. In Seattle the bus is $2.50 and here in Oakland its $2.10, with no transfer.

No it's for getting on other busses too, so like a return trip or a transfer has to happen within an hour and a half. They don't kick you off, you just can't get on another once it's expired.
