Re: Rant/Complain Thread: u mad?
Garrett, that's called blaming the victim. Don't do it.
Re: Rant/Complain Thread: u mad?
Garret, people don't necassarily rant on the internet for others to tell them what they did wrong, but to find sympathy. Even if you are trying to help, please try and be more respectful to others, especially when they are upset. A little tact goes a long way.

"I'm sorry to hear that."

Sometimes people don't want constructive criticism. They just want to hear, "That really sucks and I sympathize with you."

Thankfully, Ralis was rather chill with it.
Re: Rant/Complain Thread: u mad?
He was, but I wanted to point that out for future reference because it could go over a lot less well, especially in a thread like this.

Agreed. If in my situation Garrett you had told me "you should have gone slower" I'd probably have flicked you off and said some rather nasty things. Constructive criticism comes AFTER sympathy, empathy and time.

Re: Rant/Complain Thread: u mad?
garret the truth is 90% of people are at least as smart as you and have long ago already come to the same conclusion
like if i left money out and it gets taken, of COURSE my first thought is gonna be "shit i should have hid it better"
but if im on a forum saying my money got taken i just want people to know that something bad happened to me, not to listen to a bunch of people chastise me with stuff i already know, especially going as far as to say it's partially my fault. that's not constructive criticism to begin with, since it contributes nothing. that's just being rude.

Re: Rant/Complain Thread: u mad?
Garrett, I'm going emulate you for a moment so that you understand exactly how it feels when you react this way to people's very valid posts about being upset/mad. You can think of this as the kind of "constructive criticism" you often give other people, the kind of thing that the rest of the members of this forum have been too polite to give you. Because, when someone posts something in this forum, they are usually looking for sympathy, so we try to keep it sympathetic. But hey, you made a mistake as well! Mistakes deserve constructive criticism, right? So here it is, the best advice I can give you as someone who has spent a lot more time than you dealing with both the virtual and the real world, dealing with work and school, dealing with other people, and someone who hopes that you don't continue to act this way towards people, and try to exercise a little tact once in a while. In my best impression of the tactless, logical, and unhelpful, here goes:
Stop being an asshole.
Its not a good look.

Headache! I had friends over yesterday for a Lord of the Rings extended edition marathon, they wipmed out half say through the second film and we watched some other shows but since then I've had this banging headache that won't shift. Water, sleep, meditation, prescription drugs, nope it wants to stay and make me feel crappy.
blah.
blah.

I love it when picture files become corrupted and you can't work on them anymore, it's peachy.

Re: Rant/Complain Thread: u mad?
Alright, a few days ago I was at the Navy Exchange, which for all of you non-military-family types is pretty much a store that sells stuff but only for people in the military (Why they call it the Navy exchange and not the Military Exchange I have no idea), and found a physical copy of Rhythm Thief for pretty darn cheap cheap, and for the first time ever my parents were okay with letting me get it without a huge argument of whether I have enough games already or not. I was about to get it when I decided that it'd probably be better so pre-order Bravely Default instead. So I put it back, and we went home. Earlier today, I brought it up with mom how I wanted to get Bravely Default, and she flat-out denied me, stating that I should have gotten the game at the Navy Exchange. I asked her why, but she just ignored me and started playing Disney Infinity, which she's been addicted to lately. I really just don't understand parents anymore. Hopefully I can do some serious convincing later after she gets off that darn game. Gaaaaaah
EDIT: To clarify a little, I have enough money for both games, so she didn't deny me because I didn't have enough cash. For some reason my parents like to say I can't use my own money.

Re: Rant/Complain Thread: u mad?
Since moving out this year I haven't had to deal with that, but I know what it's like. I feel for you man, that kind of situation sucks.
