Another thing Nessy said to point out is that the point of the ice water is that ALS is like a shock to your system, and that they have to live with that every day. Symbolism.

My Great-Uncle, who sponsored and housed my family when we moved to the United States, died some years ago of complications related to ALS, specifically of throat cancer when he was already bed/recliner bound. He had basically functioned as acting grandfather to my siblings and I as the entirety of our family was on the other side of the world. It actually came as quite a relief to me, and my family, when he died fairly quickly of throat cancer, because his degeneration due to ALS was horrible to see.

The whole dumping ice on yourself bit is a little bit much, admittedly, and I know I have a semi-personal stake in this, but this could be literally any disease, as long as people are donating I can't see the harm in it. The "challenge" thing isn't all that interesting, you're right, but I cannot for the life of me see how this would distract or obstruct anything on the internet, unless I am misunderstanding you. Maybe you interact with the internet through some sort of view based feed? That seems silly, but I guess that would be a way that these videos would make it hard to use the internet.

Much like every other thing on the internet, if you don't like it, don't look at it. Its not crowding out anything in any way I can tell. Theres a ludicrous amount of pornography on the internet, but I'm able to get through my whole work day without seeing any, so it must not be that hard to selectively view things? The only place I even see this stuff is on my Facebook feed, and if thats the issue, hide those posts or just wait it out. Trends are trends, you cited doge and Slender, which were also things that were easy to avoid if you didn't hang out in shitty tumblr feeds or 4chan. I guess I don't know what you spend your time doing on the internet, but this sure as hell isn't obstructing me from any of the things I typically do on the internet. Berserk forums complaining about no releases. Video game forums are filled with Zoe Quinn vitriol. Same old same old. My YouTube channels are posting the usual content. Everything is fine, this will pass in a few weeks, and maybe as a result at least 1 disease will have some extra funding.

Additionally, Garrett, I know you've been told this a million times, but chill the fuck out, you're acting like a jerk because people on the internet are forcing you to "keep scrolling". You sound like a petulant child.

From my viewpoint it's just such a meh way of raising money, it's the entire celeb/attention wanting culture of today. Granted it's effective, but it doesn't stop a distaste from developing for me.

I can respect your opinion there, and even agree to some extent. If the people who did the challenge used it to get out of donating, I'd be more frustrated. Everybody who does it donates something, though, which makes it fine by me what their motives are.

There are ants literally ALL OVER THE HOUSE and I am unsure if I will survive the night with my sanity intact. Not really much of a horrible situation but I REALLY hate ants.

The ant problem in California is unreal and I loathe it. We moved to a different bedroom just to avoid sharing a wall with my yard because we kept finding the damn things in the bed.
