My all singing, all dancing new line-up of level 40 retiree replacements:
Front:
Android/Warrior with maxed Blade Rave
Android/Ballista with maxed Front Line Mortar
Monk/Prince with maxed Party Heal/Refresh and Vitality
Rear:
Pirate/Ballista with a range of elemental skills, smoke bomb and limit boost
Shinobi/Zodiac with Dark Ether and an occasionally used Clone and Meshizuna.
The whole party's skill selection was almost complete at level 20 when they were created, which meant the newbies could immediately hold their own in the deeper stratums.
I was thinking of having an Android/Monk for the toughness, bind immunity, and status resists but in the end the extra healing capacity sounded better, and he seems to hold up pretty well in the front line.
I'm loving the androids' staying power in tough fights, especially when binds and status effects are flying around.
The other party I dreamed up and wouldn't mind trying out:
The 'Scarecrow Avengers'
Front:
Warrior/Monk
Warrior/Monk
Warrior/Monk
Rear:
Shinobi/Warrior
Hoplite/Warrior
The Shinobi just does Heat Haze every turn, and when that gets killed every party member gets 200 HP from Avenger, and the Monks all get 20 TP from Art of Blood Return. It seems like a very sustainable set-up without any dedicated healing or Dark Ether use. Expensive on the skill points though.
A one-trick pony, but I'm kind of pleased with the idea.
My apologies if any of this duplicates ideas put out earlier, I've avoided reading the thread because I like coming up with my own teams and if I saw something better...

Level 5ish is honestly not a good indicator of anything. Get the passive EXP skill (Listen to Experience) and have your sideline characters just level that way. Sure, it'll cost you 10 points but you'll get far more feel for the classes when they're eventually 20+ then you would if you made a decision from the first few levels.
Especially if you consider the change in character dynamic with sub-classing (i.e., Shinobi/Zodiac is a hell of a lot different than vanilla Shinobi or Shinobi/Anything).
As for grinding, I fucking hate Gold FoEs. That is all.

I'd love to be able to figure out a way to beat the post-storyline dragons without a Hoplite, but I think I'll have to retire one of my level 40-something Listen to Experience guys and start grinding one up. Either that or build an entirely new team by retiring my main 5. I'll try and put it off until I hit a wall in exploration though.

I posted this on GameFAQs but I'll post this here to make it seem like I'm more active.
I'll probably go with:
Front: Hoplite, Shogun, Monk
Back: Zodiac, Ninja
As for multiclassing. I hear lots of good things about Shogun/Buccaneer so I'll probably go with that. Also thinking of going with Zodiac/Gladiator for Charge to boost Meteor's damage (Though I probably won't grab that skill until I get the Shogun unlocked). And maybe try Hoplite/Shogun for improved tanking ability.
As for the other two, I have no idea. Ninjas can pretty much fit into any role from the looks of it, so I have plenty of options for him. Assuming Ninjas have high AGI though, I would think a Ninja/Buccaneer would work pretty well with Million Thrust.
As for Monk. Not a clue. They seem to be dedicated healers, that can also fight with the right setup. Maybe I'll go for Princess have her aim for full support, (While being able to fight with her fists of course).
One person suggested I should try Hoplite/Ninja. I suppose added evade is nice, but it seems wasteful when you're only getting multiclassing it for one ability. I suppose there's Acrobatics as well, plus there's issue of too many skill points to spend on the Hoplite itself... >_>
