Guild and Class selection
Moderator: ItL Moderators
Hey, I'm new here. Big fan of EO1, bought EO2 but never had time to play it (damn you Devil Survivor) So the third is on my plate and I've A. got the time B. rather excited.
Anyway, I was thinking of:
Front: Monk, Buccaneer, Hoplite
Back: Wilding, Arbalist
I'm not going to go through the specifics on the reasoning. What I really want to know is why the Wilding is not generally featured in peoples main parties? Are they really under-powered or just boring? I normally really like support/summoning characters in games and was rather excited that they'd added one. Should I replace him with a Ninja instead?

The issue with Beast Kings is that they're waaaay too dependent on their summons. Frankly, without them, they're rather useless. On top of that, most classes can cover the majority of the statuses you would want anyway (notably, the Binds) so it makes the hefty cost on the Beast King summons a bit of a drawback. Beyond that, they also require a front-row slot to be free (unless you're just summoning them for the status effect and don't care about the damage) which makes them a bit cumbersome at times. Their damage (both the BK and the summons) is also fairly low too.
Biggest "hindrance" is the fact that EO3 added a depreciating effect to status conditions. Well, sort of. They're harder to apply as you inflict status effects on the target. Each time will put a -30% chance for the next status effect to land so you'll eventually hit immunity. Though, BK's do have the ability to pierce resistances up to 15% but, still, it's rather annoying.
As for your group, you probably want to free-up a front-row spot unless you were just planning on the status effect summons (Binds, Poison, Sleep); all the pets, sans the Owl, have a damage penalty if they're in the back-row. The Owl doesn't actually attack either, just spams Sleep all the time, so the BK has absolutely no summons that take advantage of a back-row slot for damage.

My current party with the goals for skills in mind is:
Monk - to max out both counters, Darkness Fist, HP, and Ascetic Deeds
Princess - The 3 passive healing skills. Maxed Rally, Protect Order, and Royal Lineage. lvl 5 negotiation
Hoplite - provoke+parries combo, Line guard, and the elemental guards
Zodiac - Etheric return, single elemental stuff, meteor
Maybe Ninja? - instead of zodiac, would concentrate on smokescreen, beckoning(for monk counters), acrobatics, izuna, shadow weave,
Arablist - at the moment not sure what I want to do with her but I plan on getting night vision, snipe, armor piercer, and double action. If I use ninja I'll concentrate on elemental barrages instead
Obviously I have a long way to go before I reach those goals so for now my setup is more basic. I haven't even used every class yet so nothing is permanent, but the ninja setup is what I want to head toward.
