Uroboros Guard + Lucky Hammer has basically been my permanent set-up for Limits for the entirety of the post-game. Every other turn Absorb All is ridiculous.
As for farming books, well ... you can do that to "fix" any character. It's what makes Zodiacs potentially ridiculous as a STR-based class.

The party is a little odd, Buccaneer would benefit most from Pincushion over chase skills.
Not really good with Wildling, much less two of them in a full five-man party, Line Guard is better than Bodyguard, not gonna need max level BG for Hoplites as well.
Prince seems ok tho, he can benefit from Front Mortar as well. .

I'm pretty sure most people suggest Hoplites primarily for post-game stuff and, even then, it's not even required.
At the very least, that's been my stance on Hoplites in general.
