This was the third time I was fighting an early boss.

Nevermind guys, I started over (No way I was gonna kill it and have Sins be a level behind) when I came back it was rare and I got 10 thousand exp!

When Life gives you lemons you say DANM the lemons! I want steak! And then you get 10 thousand exp.

EDIT: Nevermind, solved that one. Now the new mark Quest...

Edit yet again: Finished the Mark Quests. It seems that I didn't defeat a giant moth but and now there are no more quests. So do I just play through Normal Mode with more quests? If so, what can I do about those golden chests I can never seem to open?

There was a chest at the beginning if the fifth stratum that gave you the key in order to open the chests

Resetting bind resistance is a master Arcanist skill (Releasal Spell), so you probably won't be able to use that for now. Again, order all your party members to defend if you really cannot bind the boss in the right time.

Any Ice spell/Ice Stake can destroy the scales. Not sure if Ice Coffin works (never use that Burst at all, and that sounds like a waste of Burst to me). I tried Freezing Link on a scale and it made it grey (looks like inactive), so maybe a icy forged weapon or would do the same.

Personally I don't like the idea of putting my Fortress in the back row, as either the game mechanism or my RNG problem, monsters tend to attack other party members even when my back-row Fortress has a maxed rank Taunt on her (not to mention the loss of TP regen).

Actually how is your party setup/level right now?

Ice damage stuns a scale for a number of turns that I don't know. There's like, 15 stakes for harvest between the geopole and the boss chamber, assuming you opened up all the shortcuts. Also, I'd suggest using a Fire Rune rather than an Ice Rune, because it'll save you a lot of heartache.
(P.S. if you equip your best attacker with Red Doublet, they can survive the counter ability a lot better too)

In unrelated news: Can anyone confirm if autorevive/autoheal are at all worthwhile? I noticed a build that could max both of them pretty easily, but I'd rather not end up wasting my time.

Not sure about autoheal (trigger when a member fell below 30% HP; its effect varies with TEC), but autorevive has 25% trigger rate. As long as the castor is not dead, autorevive may trigger every time a party member fell. In case of an AoE rampage, autorevive may actually revive more than one member, so I would say it is RNG dependent skill.

I'm going through and trying to make an "optimized" party, rather than just "whatever I felt was most useful for this exact dungeon," and... it's gonna take some time since I have to change classes and figured it was a good time to retire people.

The way I see it, "things you need" looks like:
Physical damage
Elemental damage
Healing
Defense
Lockdown

Except you always need more damage than you can manage with just that, and then you have only so many skill points to make those work, and it... gets really jumbled up. Curse you five-man limit!
